I Heart… Kelly Smith

I’ve been meaning to share the work of one of my favourite fashion illustrators for months, but every time I go to post, she keeps coming out with a new and more beautiful than ever illustration and I end up rethinking my entire entry! It’s true: Kelly Smith’s work is just that good! No lies, I just spent the last 3 hours shuffling through all of her drawings trying hopelessly to narrow down a handful of favourites to showcase to you all. Could it be done? Technically, yes. Though very unsuccessfully I must say. Honestly, how can you whittle down such masterpieces into just a few “favourite” selections. It would be like trying to pick the 10 best Monet’s, or the 10 best Mondrian’s… impossible!

Kelly Smith’s work has such a dreamy and innocent quality to it. From the candy pastel colours, to the soft and flowing lines, she creates a fashion-forward fantasy world with every stroke of her pencil.

ShimmerLikeGold.org… Adventures of an IAD Student

As I’m sure frequent visitors to my blog know, I’ve just started my second degree in Interior Architecture in Design (IAD). I’m just coming up on the end of my first course within two week’s time, and it’s been quite the experience to say the least! It’s very demanding and challenging creatively, but it’s also one of the greatest things I’ve ever done for myself. I was hesitant about starting up yet another degree so soon after I finished my last (only in May), but I couldn’t be happier with my decision. Design is what I truly love and I’m so excited to finally be working towards something I’m passionate about.

Picspam… White

“Sorrow had blanched the Queen’s once beautiful hair; but her features and air still commanded the admiration of all who beheld her; her cheeks, pale and emaciated, were occasionally tinged with a vivid colour at the mention of those she had lost. When led out to execution, she was dressed in white; she had cut off her hair with her own hands. Placed in a tumbrel, with her arms tied behind her, she was taken by a circuitous route to the Place de la Revolution, and she ascended the scaffold with a firm and dignified step, as if she had been about to take her place on a throne by the side of her husband.”

~ Jean Charles Dominique de Lacretelle on Marie Antoinette

I Heart… Meaghan Waller

I don’t think I need to preface this with a gush about how much I love Canada’s Next Top Model. But for the newcomers and unaware: I freakin’ love Canada’s Next Top Model. There. I said it.

The finale of the show was last Tuesday, and what a finale it was! I’m so pleased that the girl I was rooting for all along came out on top. Yay Meaghan! She reminds me so much of my beloved Gemma Ward (who I’ve been missing terribly!); she has that same doll-like face that I’m such a sucker for in my models. She’s definitely got a lot going for her, not only with her look that’s very “in” in the modeling industry at the moment, but the designers in New Yorki were totally smitten with her, she has an amazing portfolio of pictures from the show, and damn, the girl can work a runway!
