I Heart… Chanel Couture (Fall 2009)
I’m completely and utterly behind the times with this one for which I’m terribly, terribly appalled. Fashion waits for no man! Fortunately, I am woman, and I say, “Better late than never!” Such is my philosophy on dieting, on washing dishes, and now, apparently on blogging.
Anyway. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times: I’m probably one of the least fashionable people north of the border. I’m sure on numerous occasions others have wondered whether I actually owned a mirror in my house. Sometimes, I wonder that too. What is this mirror type device you speak of? Beside my point though. Despite my apparent lacking of the ‘fashionista gene’, I still adore all things couture to no end and my life simply would not be complete without excessive designer stalking. The apple of my eye this season: Chanel. Though honestly, when is Chanel not the object of my affections? If this were high school, and Chanel the boy I was crushing on, there would be little doodle hearts exploding all over the place right now. Not a pretty sight.
Silliness aside, here’s a quick glance at some of the drool-worthy ensembles from the fall line. Sit back and prepare to be awestruck.

The beaded collar, waistline and wristbands of this number appear to be adorned with delicate snowflakes.

I love the way the fabric drapes so regally around the legs. It’s almost peacock-like.

Sign me up for one of these! This extravagantly ruffled dress is the definition of femininity and class with its buttery white colour and clean contrasting black details. This is one of my favourites from the entire collection, and model Sasha Pivovarova wears it beautifully.

Loving the lace tights seen throughout the entire collection (though, they of course are nothing new fashion-wise, they just add to the beauty of the line).

Beautiful. I love the way the fabric falls in perfect pleats. It’s very feather-like. The entire dress reminds me of a swan in its grace and elegance. (You’re all going to think I have a bird fetish now since I’ve referenced yet another feathered friend. Do I deny it? … no.)

There are no words. Actually, no. I lied. There is one word: Ethereal.

Can we all just stop and ogle this one for a moment. Look at the detail! The doubled breasted jacket, the belt, the party streamer-like train, the delicately ruched fabric, the tutu-esque skirt-lining. In a lot of cases, this could be way too over the top, but à la Chanel it radiates sophistication and edginess.

The ruffles, oh my gosh, the ruffles. When I die, my heaven will be filled with Chanel dresses embellished with ruffles.

The fabric flows so elegantly. And the small touches of beading is just the icing to the couture cake.
Draping, beads and feather, oh my! If that’s not a recipe for success, I don’t know what is.

This is another of my absolute favourites from the collection. I’m in love with the applique-esque glittered targets the entire dress is shaped from. And the colours are divine; so lush and dreamy. I know it’s a little early to be thinking Christmas lists, but screw it. Dear Santa: Please bring me this Chanel dress. Love, Krissy. xoxo.
Chanel can do zero wrong in my books. It’s impossible. It’s against math. And nature. And science. And lots of other things. Chanel = Holy Grail. This entire collection is beyond exquisite; it gives me a squishy feeling inside just thinking about it. Just look at the details. The ruffles, the frills, the layers, the sequins, the lace, the beading, the feathers, the ruching, the applique! This is how fashion is done.

I’m really not fashionable either and I’m not really up on couture (although I do find it fascinating and beautiful), but when I do find myself looking, Chanel always seems to be one to ogle. I absolutely love that buttery white & black dress (the 3rd, one of your favs) … its jaw-dropping gorgeousness!
