I Heart… Nanette Lepore (Spring 2010 RTW)

The second stop on the New York Fashion Week train is… Nanette Lepore! I was actually very pleasantly surprised with this collection as I found her Fall 2009 RTW collection a bit dull. But her Spring 2010 RTW collection has taken a complete 360 degree turn from bland to bold, bright, and beaming!

Who’da thunk red-orange, hot pink and blue would go so well together? Not I. Even in such large quantities and completely in one solid chunk of colour, they’re a match made in fashion heaven.

Normally, I think I’d be instantly repelled by something like this. Every colour of the rainbow, a massive all encompassing pattern, and a floral one at that… it screams “grandma”. I don’t know how Miss Lepore does it, because this is so far from “grandma”, you almost wonder if it’s a word. Wait, grand-what?

Love the sheer layer of olive fabric over the hot pink base.

The ruffle-y little detail on the shoulder of this dress is so adorable. If it had cheeks, I’d pinch them. (Maybe the grandma up and camped itself out on me?… Now there’s an interesting thought.)

I love the shape of this dress and the way it drapes in so many directions. It has really great movement.

This shirt is so much fun! I want one for myself. It’s like dressing yourself in Lucky Charms! Instant merrymaking shall ensue.

Colour is what really drives this entire collection. It’s bold and very in your face. It’s like a neon rainbow vomited all over everything. In the good way. Not the “Ewwww! TMI! TMI!i” kind of way. So to steal from everyone’s favourite rainbow candy brands, taste the rainbow! And, my word, that rainbow is delicious. From acid yellow-green and hot pink, to vibrant red-orange and tropical blue, the colours of Nanette Lepore’s collection are so fresh and exotic.

I also love the tropical island/summer breeze vibe. Tropical the island breeze / All of nature wild and free / This is where I long to be / La isla bonita…

… erm, sorry. Got a little distracted there. But doesn’t Nanette’s Lepore’s collection totally reek of La Isla Bonita? Again, in the good way. Man, I’m making all sorts of stinky references here today. Oh, look. I did it again. (And I was 102% tempted to segue into a little Britney there, but I’ll save you all the torturous flashback.)

Anywhoodle, I think Madonna’s song La Isla Bonita totally suits this collection; it’s rockin’ that sophisticated beach resort vibe so well. And for a girl who hates summer and the hot weather that goes along with it, this collection is making me seriously consider jetting off to a warm, sandy beach just so I can flounce around in this attire. Beach balls, inner tubes, snorkels, flippers… here I come!

So bright and colorful, a really fun collection. I really like the blue over pink and the olive-green over pink dresses… too cute. I also love that the models’ hair and make up isn’t over the top ridiculous.

Love the colours! I also like that safari still seems to be running through as a semi theme, without being too strong.

Full on safari scares me, but little bits here and there look good.

Oo, I hadn’t thought of that… safari. I guess I interpreted the cargo pants/khaki-ness as more beachy, but I can definitely see it being a bit safari-like now that you mention it. And I’m with you on the scare factor of safari; especially when people get crazy with animal print too. Very frightening. If you want safari, go on one! Don’t wear one!

I’ve kind of been stalking the London Fashion Week designs as well. XD Here I thought NY Fashion Week was a real gem, but I’m finding even MORE collections that I love from London. *grabby motion* I think I might have to dedicate next week to it now too. XD People are going o hate me and all my Fashion Week posts. XD I can’t help it though; there’s so much pretty to take in!

I haven’t seen ghe Fashion Fringe collection yet though. But I will now that you’ve mentioned it! :D I LOVED Twenty8Twelve though. Sienna Miller! ♥ I’ve already started a list of my potential top 5 from LFW, and the list is already really, really long. XD How I’ll narrow down, I don’t even know.
