I’d be lying if I didn’t say I haven’t been semi-religiously watching Fashion TV over the last few days. Since I’ve had the house to myself, it means reverting to old bad habits like eating microwaveable foods in large quantities, not washing the dishes until absolutely necessary, and leaving the television turned on at all times for ‘background noise’. Not that I consider Fashion TV ‘background noise’ – it’s more like a religion! – but you catch my drift. It happened to be quite the convenient time to be tuned in 24 hours a day with New York fashion week under wraps, as well. I like to think my parents strategically planned their trip to coincide with post-fashion week just for my benefit. Wouldn’t that be oh so considerate of them?
In honour of this momentous event in the fashion industry, I thought I’d dedicate this week to my five favourite collections of Spring 2010. Horray! First stop… Karen Walker!
“Peaches Geldof plays Alice for Fairytale Photoshoot“. If that’s not a headline that strikes fear in small children all around the world, I don’t know what is. Thank you (?) to Sophie for bringing this crime to my attention. Thank you because now I have something I can mock until the cows come home. On the flipside, however, it makes me want to gauge my own eyeballs out with a fork after witnessing that. Not gonna lie, but this was my reaction:
True story. (Side note: I love Phoebe so much. ♥ Favourite Friends character of all time.)
Anticipating… the season premiers of Bones (on the 17th), The Beautiful Life (on the 16th), and How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory (on the 21st). Gossip Girl premiers tonight and I’m beside myself with excitement! :D
Returning… back to school for the second semester of my degree! I’m taking three classes: Sketching for Communication, Introduction to Construction Documents, and Design of the Built Environment A. I’m a bit overwhelmed with the work load at the moment, but trying not to freak out. Yet, anyway. We’ll see how I feel when mid-semester project deadlines start creeping up. ;)
Housesitting… My parents are away for the week, and I have the house entirely to myself. It’s quite nice having all this alone time.
Reading… House & Home’s Small Spaces special issue. My favourite! There’s nothing I love more than a perfectly executed small space.
Running… I’m still keeping up with my “be healthy” plan and have continued with my 30 minutes of cardio every day. I’m taking it slow and trying to work up my running time. It’s hard work but it’s very rewarding.
Drifting… off to sleep to the soothing sounds of a rainstorm at Baby-To-Sleep.com. I fear I might have a mild-case of insomnia, and from time to time, listening to nature sounds helps me relax when I’m trying to get to sleep.
Watching… Supernatural. I’ve been trying for months to watch it but can only seem to stomach a few episodes here and there before having a mild heart attack, locking myself in my bedroom, hiding under the covers, and being scared to so much as turn on a faucet. (Something could come out of it!!) Suffice to say, horror and I do not mix. But I love the boys so much that I keep coming back to it. I made my way through the end of season 1 yesterday afternoon, and I think I may – veeerrry slowly – be getting over some of my irrational fears.
Eating… In with friends. Spending the night ordering in pizza, eating ice cream straight from the container, and trying to invent our own type of fruit punch by mushing fruit, sugar and pop in a large Tupperware container … more fun than a barrel of monkeys.
Desperately Wanting, Begging, Pleading… For the local movie theatre to show The September Issue! *puppy dog eyes*
Wishing… my scanner would work properly. I’m having quite a difficult time scanning my assignments for school.

I still remember the exact place I was 8 years ago today: standing just outside the door to my math class, first floor of the high school, pod D, classroom in the far right corner. I was with a friend and we were frantically going over our fractions homework from the night before checking our answers against each other. God forbid we got one little question wrong on even the most insignificant math homework from 9th grade. It all seems so trivial now. All I can remember afterward is staring blankly in complete silence at the projector as we all watched the smoke rising and clouding the entire city in black.
Though I knew no one personally involved, my heart goes out to those who lost family, friends and loved ones in the attacks.
What’s this? I’ve fallen in love with a fashion interpretation of a fairy tale? You’ve got to be kidding me. Krissy? Fashion? Fairy tales? Never!
Yeah, yeah, I’m really quite obvious in my loves of fashion and fairy tales. So obvious, in fact, that I think you all would have been terribly shocked and appalled if I hadn’t posted this shoot from the September issue of Vogue. Speaking of which, going to take a little side step here and ask – has anyone seen The September Issue documentary yet? Personally, I’m dying to! Anna Wintour is my god. Or no, wait. Karl Lagerfeld is. No, Anna Wintour. Or both. Always both. When in doubt, pick both. It’s the best option, I assure you. In all seriousness though, Karl Lagerfeld – please adopt me.
Anywhoodle, now that I’ve thrown any sense of dignity to the wind, where was I? Ah yeah, fashion inspired by fairy tales. You can never go wrong in this department. In my books, the combination of high fashion and fairy tales is a match made in heaven. I could gush further on why – really, I could, and it would be all sorts of fantastical! Don’t believe me? Please refer to Exhibit A, and Exhibit B – but I’ll spare you all the 100 page novel and simply divert your attention to the stunning pages below in all their glory. Little Red Riding Hood takes a walk on the wild side. And by wild side, I mean fashionable side. I just couldn’t think of anything clever and fitting to say. So I went with semi-clever-but-also-really-cheesy. Cheese works for me. I accept the cheese, I embrace the cheese, and I go with the cheese. No use fighting nature, my friends.
