Picspam… Masks

A crow was filled with envy on seeing the beautiful white plumage of a swan, and thought it was due to the water in which the swan constantly bathed and swam. So he left the neighbourhood of the altars, where he got his living by picking up bits of the meat offered in sacrifice, and went and lived among the pools and streams. But though he bathed and washed his feathers many times a day, he didn’t make them any whiter, and at last died of hunger into the bargain.

There’s something very mysterious, dreamy and curious about masks. They’re one of those things that can so quickly and easily move from playful and fun, to twisted and sinister at the snap of a finger. Much like many things in this world, they walk a very fine line.

I forgot to post this the week before last amongst the Fashion Week extravaganza. Since it was ready, I figured I should publish it now since I’m up to my ears in school work at the moment and don’t have the remaining two segments of my London Fashion Week recap finished just yet. Expect those by Monday/Tuesday. Otherwise, happy weekend! Hope you all get to enjoy it instead of working way too hard! ;D

I think I may be one of the very few people that dislike masks unless they’re used in a ‘creepy’ sense — For example, the pig mask often used in the Saw films. If they’re used like that, I love ‘em … But if they’re used in a way that’s too ‘pretty’, I dislike them! I’m not sure why …

Consider us opposites on the topic of masks, then! I don’t mind a little bit creepy but still semi-pretty, but super duper creepy bordering on terrifying I can’t handle. :P

This has reminded me that I am desperate for a Mask, like a masquerade one!

I adore that quote, it just shows that envy and trying to be what you are not is not a good thing for anyone.

I have to wait till Monday for the next LFB? No fair lol (I was surprised you aren’t going to blog about Twenty8Twelve so I am extra looking forward to your choices!)

Masks have always scared me (I read a story once about these “haunted” masks that glued themselves to your face and I’ve been petrified ever since) but these are really pretty!

There’s a Buffy episode like that! I can’t remember which one it is off the top of my head, but if you ever watch the show, stay away from that episode. *end random*

Isn’t it awesome? I love it so much too! I think one with mouse ears would be super cute, too.

I have to admit that I think that there’s something very creepy about masks. I think it has to do with the fact that I have no idea who could be behind the mask, and for all I know it could be a crazy psycho killer behind it. Yes, I’m paranoid like that!

Aww, I don’t think it’s paranoid at all. Everyone has their fears. :)

I often times forget the beauty that is to be found in masks…and how it’s visual art for the face. I love the eccentric masks with the glitter, feathers and sequins. I am a fool for feathers in general, but there’s something so delicate yet flamboyant about masks that fascinates me.

Very lovely post, m’dear.

Masks usually freak me out too just like what the others have already said but I won’t deny the fact that these pictures look absolutely gorgeous and make masks look not so scary at all. :)

I love that even in typical “creepy” things like masks, there’s still a lot of beauty to be found. :)
