Mixology… ‘Sugar, Spice and Everything Nice’

This mix is inspired by Jenaveve’s post about the Hummingbird 100 – a music survey created to embrace the 100 greatest female musicians. And I thought, you know what, I’m a female musician whore, so why not make a mix dedicated entirely to music by female artists (and bands fronted by females). Girl power! So I attacked my iTunes and began compiling a playlist. After going through my entire library, I ended up with close to 100 songs on that mix which is a bit excessive to post, I’m afraid. But it just goes to show that they’re so much talent out there! After much struggling, I managed to narrow that list down to a top 20 to create a mix I like to call…

I know I’m missing lots of awesome people there, but it was hard! Feel free to bop me over the head for not including one of your favourites. ;)

ETA: I’ve followed in Claire‘s footsteps and added my 100 songs to a Last.fm playlist which you can see here.

And just a quick reminder re: downloading music… Remember that these tunes are for sampling purposes only and according to some law with a fancy name that I forget but is all legit and scary and stuff, all things downloaded must be deleted within 48 hours. Support the artists you love! :)

  1. Most cliched title of all time? Yup. But it reminds me of the Powerpuff Girls – who are Aweome! with a capital ‘A’ – so I’m goin’ with it. (»)

I gave them all a listen, I really like the Mazzy Star song, it was really pretty. I LOVE the new Lady Gaga song, I just love her more all the time. 1,000 Oceans has always been a favorite of mine.

1000 Oceans is one of my all-time favourite songs. ♥ It was the first Tori song I ever heard and I instantly fell in love. So beautiful.

I knew some of them (always loved Hide and Seek) but most of them are new, so thanks for sharing :D
By the way, I adore the last photo from the new Dior ad! It always makes me happy when I see it on tv.

I loooove Hide & Seek. Such a haunting song.

Heee! Someone noticed the Dior ad picture! That makes me happy! I love that ad. I’ve never seen it air on television here which is a bummer though. :(

Thanks! :D And thank you for sharing your 100 list! I see lots of gems on there. A few I mentioned above (though with different songs), and Kate Bush, Joanna Newsom, and Cat Power! ♥ You have excellent taste!

Perhaps I should post my 100+ songs on last.fm as well. It seemed a bit much to post here, but I think last.fm might come to the rescue! ;)

Yay! New playlist! :D I had 11 out of your final 20, which explains why our compatibility bar at last.fm is always about to explode XD
I’ll download the rest asap and I won’t mention anything about other artists, because I’m sure the ones I’m thinking about were among those initial 100 :D

Haha! Clearly, it means we’re awesome. ;D

And hopefully I did you proud with my Top 100. I ended up posting the complete list on Last.fm.

Weird! For some reason it marked your comments as spam. :( I don’t know why, but lately it’s been doing that for a few odd comments. It’s very, very peculiar.
