I ♥ Calla (Spring/Summer 2010)

With the fashion air-waves flooded to the brim this week with talk of the couture shows in Paris, it was very refreshing to stumble upon something a little less extravagant, but still equally as lovely. Discovering the spring/summer line for Canadian designer Calla Haynes was a much-needed breath of fresh fashionable air for me.

Just A Minute… In January 2010

Alice Books

Enjoying… a ridiculously long winter break.i It’s been so wonderful though. I’ve had lots of time to relax, watch movies, read, loaf around, and be generally quite lazy.

Reading… 3 whole books this month, and I’m working on the 4th! Before now, I hadn’t read a book since August. (Appaling, I know.) I devoured The Kalevala, The Alchemist, and The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. I’m currently reading The Piano Teacher.

Listening… to Debussy’s Cloches à travers les feuilles. I’m enthralled by this piece of music. I’m going to start learning it on piano.

Exercising… or trying to. I got terribly lax on my exercise regime in December, and I’m trying to work up my endurance again. As a Twitter friend so cleverly put it: “I’m not going to call it working out. I’m going to call it horror movie training. You never know when you’ll need to run.” My new motivation.

Compiling… many-a-mixtape. One of my favourite pass-times is creating playlists in iTunes. I have a bajillion. I’ve made quite a few more than normal this month. Suffice to say, I’m very excited for February’s Mixology.

Listening… and rather obsessively I might add, to Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson’s album The Break Up. It’s so fantastic. I’m addicted to the song I Am The Cosmos. No lie, I listen to it every day. And have for a good month.

Preparing… for back to school. Yes, my winter break is quickly coming to an end. It’s back to studying for me on Monday.

Shopping… lots and lots and lots. Probably too much. But I can’t help myself. It’s that time of year: post holiday sales time. I don’t spend a lot throughout the year, so I let myself go a little overboard every January as a treat to myself.

Anticipating… the final season of Lost! It’s all I could think about these last few weeks, and I can’t wait! Only a few days away now.

Stomping… around in my two new pairs of boots! Two months into the snowy season, and I finally have boots. It was kind of pathetic before. But I’m finally armed with two super stylish and practical pairs. Fear me, winter!

Blogging… up a regular-sized storm! Yes, I initially planned to do NaBloPoMo this month, but it became too stressful, too much like school. So I stuck to my regular posting ‘schedule’. A schedule I refer to as blogging whenever I feel like it. :P I’d much rather post things when I’m inspired to do so, than be forced to each day.

  1. Really. I’ve had almost 6 weeks off. I’ve never heard of such a long break before. (»)

On Finding (And Keeping) Your Inspiration

Press Record Then Play

For the observant bunch, you’ve probably noticed that I stopped participating in NaBloPoMo. I know I’d vowed to post every day for the month of January, but the forced posts became too taxing on me. I loathed the task of writing a blog entry knowing that I had to do it. Two weeks later after having “quit” and am no longer required post daily, all I want to do is compile blog posts.

Funny how inspiration works. It’s not something that can be forced and task produced. Sure, you can whip things out one after another, but in time, when your heart really isn’t feeling your creative process, your output becomes stale. You’re uninspired.

I ♥ Bright Star

I’m so in love with Bright Star. So in love that I feel light-headed and get a rush of happiness just thinking about it. So in love that it’s been the only thing on my mind since I watched this movie Friday afternoon. So in love that I can’t even form coherent sentences. No matter how I try, I just can’t get it out of my head. Though, in all honesty, I haven’t made much of an effort on that front. I quite enjoy having my mind flooded with images of wildflowers, calligraphy, butterflies, and mid-18th century British cottages, and delighting in thoughts of undying love and poetry.

You don’t have to like John Keats, or poetry, or even love stories to enjoy this movie. (I’m not really a huge romance movie – or book, for that matter – fan, so if that’s what’s making you weary of this movie … trust me, it’s so much more than that.) If for nothing else, watch this movie for the sheer beauty of it and for the privilege of taking in something so visually stunning. The cinematography is unlike anything I’ve seen before. It’s truly inspired and absolutely breath-taking. Don’t believe me? Allow the images to do the talking…i

  1. Most of the following pictures are screen caps from the trailer, but there are a few odd captures from throughout the movie as well. I don’t think there’s anything that would spoil the plot, but if you’re apprehensive, I suggest you skip to the end of this post just be on the safe side. (»)

Things That Make You Smile

The oh so lovely Katherine tagged me last week (and completely brightened my day, might I add) with a double blog award.i And so, I must write 7 things about myself, post a song and a few things that make me smile, and tag seven bloggers with a message that will make them smile. Spreading the happiness! Sounds like a plan to me. :)
