Things That Make You Smile

The oh so lovely Katherine tagged me last week (and completely brightened my day, might I add) with a double blog award.i And so, I must write 7 things about myself, post a song and a few things that make me smile, and tag seven bloggers with a message that will make them smile. Spreading the happiness! Sounds like a plan to me. :)

Two Deer

Seven Things About Myself

Handwriting01. I’ve kept a paper journal since January 1, 2007. I write in it every night before I go to bed.ii

Toes02. I was inspired to start playing piano at age 4 because my maternal grandmother used to play. It was my goal from then on to be as good as she was.

Snuggle Bunny03. I (like to think I) got my love of bunnies from my paternal grandfather. He lived on a farm called “Bob’s Bunny Barn”. He had hundreds of rabbits.

Cherry04. Cherries are one of my favourite foods. I could eat them by the barrel.

Cupcake Socks05. I love patterned socks. I have a pair with frogs, a pair with Care Bears, a pair with Bambi, a pair with strawberries, … I could go on and on. I figure, being a “grown up” is tough enough with managing finances and other responsibilities. I will never give up on wearing wildly childish socks.

Nicole Kidman06. My first favourite actress was Nicole Kidman. I fell in love with her during Moulin Rouge. (Still love her. ♥)

GameBoy Color07. I was obsessed with Pokemon when I was in the 6th and 7th grade. My favourites were Butterfree, Espeon, and Mareep. Basically, I just liked the cute ones. Kind of defeated the purpose of the game, but it didn’t involve much skill anyway, hence my fixation.

A Song That Makes Me Smile
Black Hole by She & Him

“It’s nowhere in here / And it’s everywhere else / That I don’t want to be
But I’m stuck here / Getting misty over you / I’m alone on a bicycle for two…”

A Few Things That Make Me Smile
Real cotton puffs.
Strawberry jam.
Balconies with cast iron railings.
Vines that grow all over old buildings.
Sniffly noses unthawing from the cold weather.
Shovelling snow while singing I Am The Cosmos by Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson at the top of my lunges.

Seven Bloggers & A Message That Will Make Them Smile

01. Joanne Angelina of The Painter’s Studio: I only just discovered her blog last week, but it’s so delightful. Not only that, she’s wonderfully sweet and has excellent taste in books. :) She highly recommends The Piano Teacher which I plan to read after I finish the current book I’m reading. I can’t wait!

02. Isadorra of Fantastique Mémoires from the Outer Space: Another recent blog discovery. For one, she has the most amazing name for her blog. And secondly, her photographs are amazing! She keeps me drooling.

03. Crissy of Mildly Free: Crissy is a good friend of mine that I’ve known online for quite some time. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say she was my long lost twin. It’s scary how many interests and loves we have in common. I can always count on her to gush with me about anything and everything. ♥

04. Brandi of Not Your Average Ordinary: Brandi is a fellow contributor at Lily and The Muse. I only wish I’d visited her blog much sooner! She’s very thoughtful, not to mention incredibly smart and worldly. I very much admire her desire to learn and thirst for knowledge.

05. Mallory of Where The Lovely Things Are: Lovely doesn’t even begin to describe her blog. It’s overflowing with beautiful things every day! I don’t know where she finds everything. I especially love her Etsy & a Movie posts which combine the wonders of various movies with treasures found on Etsy.

06. La Grenadine of Grenadine Acidulée: Her comments always make me smile. :)

07. Ally of Forgotten Sarcasm: Oh Ally, where to start. She’s been following my blog for so long, I can’t remember went we ‘met’. Either way, I’m very glad to have her acquaintance because she’s so kind and it always brightens my day to see her comments. (Hers are often the first ones on my posts, too. Talk about speediness! haha)

I always hate only picking seven people to tag for awards, because I love so many other blogs! But I try to spread the love and tag different people each time.

  1. The first, The Haute Mess Award and the second, she was unsure of the name of and so she combined them into one. The more the merrier! (»)
  2. I’ve only missed 4 days in the past 3+ years. (»)

I love cherries too! Every time I purchase a bag I eat it in one sitting, I can’t help myself.

Glad I’m not the only one then! I have zero self control when it comes to cherries. Kind of like with candy. It’s there, and I devour. haha

Pokemon ftw! :D I was just playing it on an emulator yesterday.

That’s so cool that you’ve managed to keep a paper diary for so long. I always try, but fail within a week. I’m just not disciplined enough!

Pokemon was uber cool back in the day. Sometimes I think about it and wish I still had my game.

It was hard to get into the habit of writing every day, but once I did, it’s like second nature to me now. I can’t go to bed without doing it; it just feels like my day is unfinished.

I LOVE that you still write in a journal. So envious! That’s been like my life-long goal hee hee. I probably have like 7 journals lying around that I’ve started, and always intended to keep going. Sometimes I’ve even made it a few weeks, but never fail I always dropped it. It combats with my reading and hubby time. Oh well. That’s why I blog now!

Love your list, and your blog:-)

I’ll send you journaling inspiration then! ;D It’s part of my nightly routine now just because I’ve been doing it so long. Brush teeth, wash face, journal, go to sleep. I’ll admit though, sometimes when I’m sleepy or annoyed with the world (haha), I won’t write much. But I still do it. I find it relaxing to let all my thoughts out each night before I go to sleep. Therapeutic, almost.

Anyhow, thank you for stopping by and for the sweet words! ♥ (And sorry to have rambled a bit on you. haha)

Cherry used to be my nickname lol. I fell in love with Nicole Kidman from either Practical Magic or Eyes Wide Shut, don’t remember which one I saw first, but yeah she’s a great actress. I keep a diary but I only write in it every once in a while.

Ally » 23 January 2010

Well, first off, congrats on the award and second, ohmygoodness! Thanks so much Krissy, I truly appreciate it.
Journals, piano, patterned socks, and a She & Him song, yum. I am totally envious that you write in a journal daily and that you play the piano, I’ve always wanted to do both.

[For some reason I feel weird mentioning it, I don't like correcting people, but I just wanted to mention that there is no hyphen in my website URL... :) Sorry and thanks again]

Krissy » January 23rd, 2010

Eep! Sorry about that! I’ll go fix it right now! (And no worries. *hug* I actually do the same thing… I’m not sure why, but correcting people makes me anxious. haha)

You should start journaling! It’s fun. :D I originally started for this challenge called Embodiment (I don’t think it’s going on any more… not really sure though). It was on LJ and everyone joined the community on Jan 1 and vowed to write in their journal each day together. It was kind of hard for me at first, but it’s second nature now. Even though I’m sure what I write it totally boring, I think I’ll be glad to look back at it when I’m 30 or 40 or something and read what I used to do and think about. And who knows, maybe I’ll still be journaling then too! haha

Krissy, you are right!

Your post really did put a huge smile upon my face! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your sweet-like-honey words on my blog and my photographs, they have made my day so blissful and magical :)

And I must say, I absolutely ADORE She & Him. It’s impossible to listen to their songs and not be taken away to Happyland.

I love bunnies too! It’s a shame that I’ve been waiting to get one as a present for such a long time now, but oh well, perhaps it’s just because a very special baby bunny is still on the making to brighten up my life :)

I hope my photos keep on making you smile, for your daily posts certainly makes this girl here do!

Yaaaay! I’m so glad it did! :D ♥

I LOVE She & Him, too! They’re so magical! I think I have a mild obsession with their music. I wish they’d tour in Canada because I would go in a second! Black Hole is my favourite song of theirs, though I love all of them so much. (I think it’s the bicycle part that makes me super happy every time I hear it.)

Aw, yes! Hopefully someday we’ll each get our beloved bunnies. My best friend growing up had one and he was the greatest bunny of all time. I was so jealous. haha.

I fell for Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge too, she just *is* Satine, I loved it, and I still think she’s amazing and so beautiful!

Those cupcake socks are superly cute too!

(Reply to this comment)

Krissy » January 24th, 2010

Exactly! She will always be that fiery haired singing seductress to me. :) It makes me so sad when people rat on her for being “old” now. I don’t get it. At all. If I look even HALF that beautiful when I’m her age, I’ll count my lucky stars.
