I ♥ Calla (Spring/Summer 2010)
With the fashion air-waves flooded to the brim this week with talk of the couture shows in Paris, it was very refreshing to stumble upon something a little less extravagant, but still equally as lovely. Discovering the spring/summer line for Canadian designer Calla Haynes was a much-needed breath of fresh fashionable air for me.
Her debut collection for her line Calla is dripping with sensuality and girlish charm, and herolds back to the era of the Impressionist painters. The subtle abstract patterns read like tiny watercolour paintings smeared effortlessly across a fabric canvas. The prints are visually distinct and extraordinary on their own, but are made all the more delightful gracing the ultra feminine shapes of the line.
I especially love the very subtle colour palette. The hint of pastel and faded pinks, peaches and taupes are artfully combined to create a palette that is fresh and elegant despite the muted shades.
The line also has a wonderful balance of super chic versus casual. The lingerie/corset style shapes play off of the shapes of the simpler blazers and pants. I think it makes for a very effortlessly (and accessibly) sexy line.
This is a collection perfect for the shy yet flirtatious. It’s one pinch dreamy and one spec innocent, but two spoonfuls overflowing with sensuality and that girl-next-door je ne sais quoi.

I feel your pain. Pastels and pale colours really aren’t flattering on me either. So I admire from afar. *wistful sigh*
