I ♥ Bambi

I’m feeling a little under the weather today,i a feeling that tends to bring out either the hopeless romantic in me, my inner child, or a huge wave of nostalgia. In this instance, I have a bit of a case of all three. The only possible cure I could come up with was: breaking out the ole VHS player and popping in a few classic Disney movies to brighten up my day. I find a good happily ever after can be the perfect medicine for when you’re feeling a bit sluggish.

Bambi & Flower

I quite enjoy Disney movies, to be perfectly honest. Classic Disney movies, that is. I can’t very well make any proper judgment on what’s out there at the moment as their current movies don’t really appeal to me. But the old animated classics – Beauty and the Beast, The Aristocats, The Little Mermaid, Lady & the Tramp, The Lion King – are so very delightful and charming that even now at age twenty-two, I still find so much joy in watching them.

Bunny FamilyBambi & Butterfly

Bambi was always one of my favourites. It’s quite possible that my initial attraction to it was all the cute woodland creatures, because really, who doesn’t love a cute little animal frolicking around on screen being generally adorable? (Bunnies and deer and skunks and possums and birds = aww! ♥) And even though behind all the cuteness, it’s actually quite a sad story, Bambi is my go-to movie for cheering me up. No matter how I’m feeling, it always puts a smile on my face by the time the credits roll. I think possibly because it reminds me of a simpler time, of being young and carefree, and exploring the wonders and beauty of the world. It gives you a little ounce perspective that sometimes you crave every once in awhile: that life is pretty darn grand, and that there’s so much out there left to discover.

Aww! ♥ I had a good cry watching it. It’s so sad. :( And actually, a lot scarier than I remembered it being. (Cue: rabid dogs chasing Faleen!)

I’ve never seen Bambi! I know, sacrilege. I just don’t really watch a lot of movies.

Wooooah, really? Never seen Bambi. I’m quite surprised! I suppose I just assumed it was a childhood staple. Though I suppose if you’re not a movie person, that would be understandable.

Awww Bambi! It takes me back those carefree lovely days ! But I totally bawled at that “Bad Bad Part” as I used to say, hahaha I think the only other one i bawled was The Land Before Time– come on, who didn’t cry when Little Foot’s mom died okay!! It doesn’t help that as valentine’s day approaches, i’m becoming more of a hopeless romantic than usual. Seeing as I’m single at the moment, its not the greatest time of the year…in fact im almost avoiding that and I’ll probably do ladies day out or something lol! Hope you spirits would be more lifted, im there in spirit! :)
Talk to you soon luve!
xoxo

Aww, the “bad bad part”. That’s so cute that you had a name for it. Oh gosh, and I remember The Land Before Time, too. (I had the board game! haha.) Didn’t the T-rex’s mom die too? Or maybe abandoned him or something? I’m fuzzy on the details. But for some reason I’m remembering something terrible happening to him too… If it did, then those movies are extra sad! I think I was too little when I used to watch them to know what was really happening though, so I don’t remember ever crying about Little Foot’s mom. (Does that make me a heartless child?)

Funnily enough, I watched the Lion King the other night. I loved it!

Oh, I love it when the Disney mood strikes! Unfortunately I don’t have a VCR anymore so I can’t watch my old VHS tapes… it makes me so sad.

Krissy » February 7th, 2010

Oh noes, no more VCR! Ours is only in my brother’s bedroom set up on a really old and itty, bitty television set. It could be worse, I could be without, but it’s still not ideal. If it didn’t cost so much to convert VHS tapes to DVDs, I’d do it to all my Disney movies.

Bambi is one of my favorites. I cried so much the first time I saw it when Bambi’s mother died. I had the same reaction during The Neverending Story when Atreyu’s horse Artax got stuck and sank. Heartbreaking.

Krissy » February 7th, 2010

I don’t think I ever really realized how sad Bambi actually was until I watched it in my teens. I remember watching it when I was little, but all I remember is liking the cute animals. XD Does that make me a heartless child?

I’ve never actually seen The Neverending Story. Hard to believe since it was such a BIG deal in its day. Maybe in my re-visitation to childhood favourites, I should rent it.

Isadora » 6 February 2010

I spent so much of my childhood watching Disney movies with my little sister. We would watch again and again, sing all the songs along with the characters until our grandma or parents came in and told us to watch something else, haha. It’s amazing how children can do these things and never get tired of whatever they are watching, reading or listening to.

My favourite films were The Little Mermaid, Alice in Wonderland and Aladdin, which meant that I would know how to sing every song both in English and in Portuguese (I was born in Brazil and we had the original and the dubbed version of our favourite Disney Classics).

Good times!

(Isadora’s last blog post: some choose to live. others, to watch.)

Haha, I would do the same with my brother! We were addicted. Disney was pretty much our life as kids.

I have to say… even though I’m in college now, I still say that Beauty and the Beast has to be one of my favorite movies of all time. How lame/cool am I?

I loved this post; you also have the cutest blog. :) I’m so glad I stumbled upon it.

Substitute “awesome” for “lame”, and I’m with ya! Disney movies are just one of those things that will always be well loved no matter how old we are. :)

Beauty & the Beast was the very first movie I ever saw in theatres, so it’s special in that way to me. :)

Awww. Bambi was the first movie I ever watched on a theatre so it will always have a special spot on my heart :)
I’m with you about loving Classic Disney, I think I lost track of their movies after Tarzan, which I found pretty bad. My favourites are Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland and The Hunchback of Notredame. And as Isadora mentioned above knowing the lyrics in Portuguese… I know them in Spanish. My friends and I went a little nuts the other day singing the Spanish version of Prince Ali XD

I think around Tarzan was when I stopped watching the new releases as well. Aside from Finding Nemo. ;) That’s their one recent gem in my eyes.

On the topic of Prince Ali, when I was in high school band, we played a suite of songs from Aladdin… greatest thing ever. We’d always sing the songs afterwards. “Prince Ali, fabulous he, Ali Abobwa!” (Or however its spelt.)

It’s impossible not to go all “aww!” when it comes to Bambi ♥ Though, when he’s taken away from his mom is heartbreaking.
Bambi and the Little Mermaid were my first two VHS. I LOVE Disney Classic and the ones you mentioned are my favourites too.
Oh the good times, haha.

I cried like a baby when the mom died. :( It’s so sad. :( Probably one of the saddest Disney movies. (At least that I can think of right now, anyway.)

Oh, Bambi! Disney movies like these always bring back memories from when I was a kid. (:
Personally, my favorite Disney movie was already The Lion King, but I also loved The Little Mermaid and Aristocats…Disney is just one of those things that you never really grow out of. My friends and I just recently watched Peter Pan, and no one felt “too old” to be watching it. (:

My favourite always was The Little Mermaid. I remember a time I watched it every single day before going to school.

I watched The Princess and The Frog the other day and although it brings that old magical feelings it is not the same o.O But it’s great anyway :)
