I ♥ Valentino (Haute Couture S/S 2010)
I’m a teensy bit late to the party, and they say “fashion waits for no man”, so you will have to excuse me; please accept my tardy slip. Not last week, but the week before, the most prestigious designers in the fashion world once again flooded the airwaves with eye candy a-plenty with their Haute Couture lines. I always look forward to these (though to be entirely honest, I look forward to any and all collections, really, so this is nothing new). But I look forward to the Haute Couture collections most of all: a) because they never fail to amaze, b) because they’re always wonderfully exuberant, and c) because the designers always always always bring their number one game.
While there are only ten certified couturiers, you’d think it would be simple to narrow down favourites. After all, there’s only ten to chose from. How hard can picking three favourites be, after all? Apparently, too hard for one such person named Krissy. I ended up with four whole collections that I was completely smitten over. For the sake of this not becoming one super monstrous all encompassing post of doom though, I’ll dedicate this entry only to the wonder that was the Valentino collection.
This Valentino collection is vibrant and playful channeling a bit of a sci-fi vibe. I get a very other-worldly/mystical creature feeling from it. It’s so unexpectedly and wonderfully weird; and I love it! Bless the fashion world: only it would make something alien inspired seem desirable in my eyes. And considering the overwhelming pre-occupation with the movie Avatar these daysi, I think that’s saying something. Because quite frankly, aliens freak me the crap out. E.T.? Terrifying. I had nightmares for weeks.
Enough talk of alien movies though because this collection does not in any way portray the “bumpy, wart-covered monster” the term generally brings to mind. Think “magnificent, soaring creature”. Like an otherworldly goddess from an enchanting utopian planet far, far away. The way the fabric flows so delicately, it creates an air of mysticality, or of something supernatural. It’s beautiful and it’s magical.
The collection evokes an image of a strong, regal, dignified being. It’s fresh and dynamic with its highly saturated pinks and lemon yellows mixed in with a sophisticated smattering of ice blues, and metallicy silvers and bronzes. What a colour palette! And what a collection. It commands attention, exudes great presence, and is quite an artfully, imaginative line.

They’re pretty epic tights! I couldn’t pull them off myself, but I can love from afar!
