Fall 2010 RTW Collection Favourites
As per usual, I can’t help but gush a little bit (or a lot, depending on who you ask) about the recent runway shows. It simply would be out of character if I didn’t, and you’d all be wondering if I’d gotten zapped up by some alien spaceship and replaced with an outer space clone! Gasp shock horror! So to save you all the worry and panic, here’s a quick peek at some of my favourite bits and pieces thus far. (In no particular order because picking a top 10 was hard enough!)
1. Ralph Lauren
Oversized floral patterns (♥), ruffley floaty silhouettes, cute tasseled black caps, and chunky textured jackets.i
2. Carlos Miele
A stunning colour palette of reds, fuschias and plums contrasted with hits of teal. Add in the fun geometric patterns and this is instant love.
3. Vera Wang
The queen of black. But she never has a dull collection. Her artful use of vastly different textures infuses so much visual interest, and she never fails to capture my eye. I’m a big fan of the hair styling as well – messy updos, centre parts and partial-braids.
4. Milly
Preppy, a little bit retro, with a super lady-like sense of elegance and sophistication. My inner Blair Waldorf is quite smitten.
5. Jill Stuart
Bold patterns, an aggressive colour palette filled with harsh blacks and greys, super bulky shapes, and major mix’n'matching. Très rock’n'roll chic.
6. Marchesa
Ultra feminine puffs of lace and tulle, like little floaty clouds. I love the lacey details; they’re like doodled on tattoos.
7. Chris Benz
One word: clashing! But in the best of ways. Such unexpected colours, textures, and patterns perfectly complement and contrast in means we never thought possible; it’s a complete smorgasbord! Plus those big, fluffy muffins are just plain fun (and likely quite warm – I could use a pair).
8. Rodarte
Watercoloury patterns, embroidery, red-orange with pale pinks and tans, and draped fabric from all angles.
9. Nanette Lepore
Lush and romantic with layers upon layers of velvet, leather and deep rich hues.
10. Alice + Olivia
Flirty little Tinkerbell-esque dresses. So adorable, I want to pop the models into my pocket. (I’m totally coveting the look in the bottom row, center.)
Oh boy! You don’t even want to know how long it took me to narrow this list down to just 10 collections. I started with over 30 and when I got down to about 14, it was just painful! In the end, I had to cut some of my favourites, but I wanted to get a smattering of lots of different styles. So a lot of really lovely sparkley dresses got the axe, even though I love glittery things like a fat kid loves cake. I only let myself pick one collection of shimmery things. How’s that for restraint! As a sort of apology to those that didn’t quite make it here, Tumblr spam with my favourite looks ensued. Here’s a few that just barely missed my top 10 (and I use the term ‘few’ loosely): Anna Siu, Cynthia Steffe, Julian Louie, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Mulberry, Oscar de la Renta, Reem Acra & Sophie Theallat.
- I know I just said I couldn’t chose a favourite, but I think this might be it. And I don’t generally even like Ralph Lauren, let alone love! (»)

Yes! I LOVE Vera! Maybe because I love black a lot, but either way, she’s definitely one of my favourite designers. The craftsmanship! The texture! The elegance! (The black! ;D) What’s not to love?
