I’m quite enamoured with the temporary tattoos that the recent Chanel line as come out with. The beauty of them is in their delicate designs, and for me personally, the temporary part is very appealing. The idea of permanently etching something onto my body terrifies me to no end. But it’s funny actually, for something I have zero interest in doing to myself, I find myself very drawn to the art of tattooing. I don’t think I would ever get a tattoo – mostly because I fear in 10 years, I would hate it and want to rip my skin off – but I do love admiring from afar. Generally, the first that comes to mind when someone mentions tattoos is not something that is artful or elegant in the least. (Personally, I think of gruffy pirates with anchors and banners reading “Mother”.) But there are a lot of really beautiful designs floating around, and that’s what keeps me searching out tattoo designs. I sometimes find myself watching those tattooing shows on television (I could personally care less amount the drama and all that sort of thing on the show), but I love seeing what images people get inked on their bodies and the special messages behind them. It must be very empowering.

Some pretty Chanel temporary tattoos…

… and some pretty real tattoos.

I believe this is only a doodle in pen, but I very much like the idea of a constellation tattoo.

Cross

Another ‘doodle’ tattoo, but it’s pretty so I couldn’t help myself. I like pretty text and birds.i

I also really love tattoos on feet. And scroll-y text. So pretty!

I think if I were (forced) to get a tattoo at this exact moment in time, I would get something very tiny on the inside of my wrist like the lovely miss Victoria Beckham pictured above. Out of boredom, I had a little pen doodling session and below is my proposed tattoo – a cute little piano keyboard. It’s small and discreet, and piano is something that has been a part of my life since I was 5, and I could not imagine my life without it, so I see that little keyboard as something that has immense emotional and personal meaning.

How about you? Would you ever get a tattoo? And because I’m nosey, assume you’re forced to get a tattoo – what would you get? :)

  1. Does this remind anyone else of Kurt Halsey Frederiksen? I’m not super familiar with his work so perhaps it is. (»)

I love your idea for a tattoo! Especially something that holds meaning.

I love some of your choices here too, the typewriter and the camera are amazing! I want a tattoo but too am scared that I would end up hating it :(

That’s basically the only thing that would keep me from getting a tattoo too. I remember in maybe 9th or 10th grade art class, we had to design a tattoo for ourselves. Thinking back on what I designed then, I’m horrified that I would have even considered putting that on my body. XD I’ve been wearing around my piano doodle though, so maybe I’ll just stick to it. haha.

Aw pretty! Especially that camera/aperture/shutter speed one. XD

If I ever get over my fear of pain when getting a tatoo, it would be a wolf probably. Maybe a silhouette of a howling wolf, either on my shoulder, hip or wrist. Or at all three places. XD

That makes me laugh every time, too. Oh, silly people.

Wait… a wolf? For you? I never would have guessed. haha. Kidding aside, I think that would suit you perfectly and would something you would definitely love and cherish forever.

Wow the eiffel tower and the birds on that girl’s wrist are my favorites. I have been thinking about getting a tattoo for a while but I have no idea what I’d get.

I lvoe this post! I have been thinking about a tatoo ever since my friend Maddy got one of a bat on her ankle, but I’m too fickle to decide what I want. Temporary tatoos may well be the way forward!

Though my mom is against the idea of me ever getting a tattoo (of course), I really love these pictures of tattoos. They look so delicate and personal– I especially love the flock of birds along the arm. I wouldn’t know where to put my potential tattoo though! The foot? Waist? Wrist? Somewhere subtle. I like your choice of tattoo. :)

Oh gosh, that would be half the battle – firstly deciding what you want, and then figuring out where to put it! Too much pressure. So I just stick to doodling on myself and ogling other people’s tattoos. ;)

I also find tattoos very intriguing, they can be so beautiful. I’m not sure I would ever get one myself for fear that, like you said, 10 years later I would hate it. Plus, I really hate needles. But if I had to get one… I’d get something on the inside of my wrist or on the top of my foot in memory of a cousin of mine that passed away.
That one doodled tattoo reminds me of Kurt Halsey Frederiksen for sure. I love his art. And I love your doodle tattoo! :D

I’ve got one tiny tatoo inside my ankle ! I will never regret it simply because it means a lot to me. They are wings that I myself drew, simple, plain, just a line.
I think it is both elegant and feminine. And especially, they remind me of what I do : skydiving.
I love the ones that you show here ! Especially birds…I could have come with birds too, but I made my choice :)

I would get a tiny picture of the Pillsbury Doughboy for my hip, on the left hand side. I’ve sort of been enamored with him since I was six years old. He was my first crush! You can tell I’ve put some thought into this :)

Well, I sure hope nobody is forced to get a tattoo. That’s cruel. Anyway, I do have a tattoo and I got it when I was 17. Now, being almost 23, I still LOVE it!! It is simple and not to big. Plus it’s in a place where I can see and enjoy it. It is a red maple leaf with a black outline on my left shoulder. (There is a picture of it on my website under webmistress > canadian patriotism). I LOVE IT. I don’t understand why people get tattoos in places they can’t see (like on their back and stuff)?!? I mean, I got a tattoo for my own pleasure, not for everybody else. Strange. Anyway, I don’t think that I would ever get another one because there is really nothing I want. I wanted my tattoo to mean something and it does. Just one did the trick.

I wouldn’t get a tattoo :P There’s no specific quote or image that particularly resonates with me. I mean, there are a lot, but there’s no specific one that stands out and will last till the end of time.

i’ve been thinking about getting a tattoo for awhile now but it probably won’t happen. I’m sorta afraid of needles, and pain really is not something I deal well with. But temporary tattoos are awesome though. I also really want to get a second piercing on my ears. I think they would rock :)

The thought of the pain really terrifies me too and is basically what’s keeping me away. I don’t think I could deal with it well, even for something small. I have a very low threshold for pain.

Thumbs up for the piercing! I have a second hole in my left ear lobe and I love it oodles. People always joke that I’m lop-sided because I only have one hole in the other ear, but I don’t care. I like it, and that’s what counts. ;)

Beautiful pics! I have a tattoo but it’s on my back so I don’t see it all the time and it doesn’t drive me crazy with monotony! But I love the small bird in flight on the arm…
I’ve heard that the foot is one of the most painful places to get a tattoo, very boney. But I’ve always contemplated getting the bones of my feet tattooed on them…does that make sense?

Eep, feet are one of the most painful? I hadn’t heard that before. Though I don’t really know much about tattooing at all either, so it doesn’t surprise me I don’t know. :P

And that would be totally awesome to have the bones of your feet tattooed on. I wonder if there’s someone who’s done that to their entire body and they’re like a walking skeleton. Now that would be a sight to see!

Lovely post, as always. I love tattooing shows too, I really started respecting those artists since I started watching them work. I don’t think I would ever get a tattoo, nothing means that much to me that I would tattoo it on my body, but a wrist is really a nice spot for a tattoo!

Forced? I want one! I’m going to try it out in henna this summer though to see if I end up loving it or growing to hate it. I don’t want to get anything permanent, grow to hate it and then be stuck with it.

I want a swallow or small black swallows on my wrist. I would also like the calligraphy or ‘let it be’ on my foot but I’m not sure what i’s have written.

That’s such a good idea, trying it out in henna first to see if it stands the test of time. This is why you are the brains of the operation. :P

The swallows sound really lovely, too. And most definitely Alice-like. :D

My friend directed me to this post, but that’s actually me with the key tattoo on my back. The funny part is, I got it on Friday the 13th at a tattoo parlor that had a special for that day where you picked an image from a sheet and got it tattooed for $13. I got one done and my roommates got one too (of different things), so the tattoo itself doesn’t have much meaning besides the experience with my friends and that I liked the image that moment.

I don’t blog myself but just came across yours and i i love it :)
i love tattoos, i find them beautiful and some what fascinating. I have 2 myself. I have a small heart probably about the same size as a 1pence piece, on the inside/side of my wrist.. i liked the idea of wearing someones heart on my sleeve. I also have a dove/swallow outline on my ribs + i am considering getting a few shadows of the same bird but smaller to represent all the people who have freed me in one way or another.
Next year i am getting a poem on my back. “You remind me, define me, incline. If you died, I’d.” simply for my mum,dad + brother + my fiance who in all seriousness i could never live without.
