In 10 Years…

The lovely Aury tagged me a few days ago with a really intriguing blogging tag: to write a post about “where I’d like to be 10 years from now”. I’ve been pondering it since then, wracking my brain. I’ve never been one to plan out my life meticulously with “oh, I have to do this by age x, and that by the time I’m x years old” etc., etc. I mean, I don’t wander around blindly, and I, of course, have many dreams and goals for myself, I’ve just never really compiled anything serious together before. But I had a lot of fun with this, dreaming and fantasizing, and here’s what I’ve come up with for myself in 10 years… some of it’s a bit lofty, but hey – a girl can dream, non?

In 10 years, I will be 32 years old and…

I will be a successful interior architect/designer. By this time, I’ll have worked in the industry for 8 years and will be a senior designer at a highly regarded firm, and possibly be looking at branching out and starting my own business as well.

I will be a regular contributor to a design magazine like LivingEtc, or Canada’s Style At Home.

I will have fallen in love. I’m a hopeless romantic at heart, and while I haven’t had much luck in this department thus far in life, I’m optimistic that I’ll find my special someone.

I will have a fur-ball or four of my own to love, cuddle and spoil. Cat, dog, bunny… I’m not picky. I’ve never had a pet in my entire life (rocks and bugs that lived a day, aside :P) and there’s nothing I’ve ever wanted more than an animal companion.

I will continue to love and enjoy creating music as a hobby and will have at some point played piano in a professional musical production. It would be wonderful to still be playing for weddings and sharing my love of music with others.

I will have lived out my childhood dream to learn ballet. Inner klutz, be damned!

I will own and have designed my own home in exactly the way I’ve always imagined.

I will have attended Paris Fashion Week.

Girl with Harp

I will have learned to play the harp. People seem think it’s odd that I’ve always wanted to learn to play the harp and ask me why I would bother. I love music, I love learning to play new instruments, and I think harps are incredibly beautiful.

I will have traveled to all of the fantastic places I’ve always dreamed of seeing, especially England, Ireland, Australia and the Czech Republic as I have family roots in these places and I would love to have discovered more about my family’s past.

Painting

I will have sold a piece of original artwork. I’m not asking to be the next Van Gogh, I’ve just always thought it would be amazing to say, “Someone thought I was awesome and they bought my work”.

Tarts -- source unknown

I will have learned to bake somewhat successfully. Ovens will not cower in fear, nor cookie sheets cry at the sight of me.

I will be happy.

I’m tagging Manda, Evelyn, Heather, & Katherine to do this as well. And of course anyone else who would like to participate, consider yourself tagged too! I’ve loved reading everyone’s entries thus far. :D

What a great post:) I love the fact that you’ve come up with all this stuff. Having dreams and goals shouldn’t be limited, although we tend to do just that pretty often. Best of luck for your future:)

Thanks, lovely! ♥ I figure, even if all of these things aren’t accomplished within the next 10 years (there’s a lot there and some of them are a bit lofty), I’m sure I’ll still be content, and I can still work towards them no matter how old I am. :)

Thanks, Eleanor! :D Perhaps I will some time. :D I haven’t done much in the last year or so because of university, so I really need to get back into it.

This is a beautifully optimistic … and dare I say, realistic?… post. :) I feel like I’ve used all my compliments on your posts, so I’ll simply say– my favorite photo out of all of these is the one with the harp. Though I can’t help but wonder how dangerous that must be…

Even better! I’m glad it sounds realistic! I tried to dream big but also within some boundaries. Because well, it’s just plain ridiculous to think I could become a mermaid or build my own spaceship or something like that. I definitely believe in being as positive as possible and opening your mind to all the possibilities in the world, but part of actually making sure you find happiness and are content with yourself is setting realistic and attainable goals. But I digress!

Eep, you’re right! I hope that harp girl doesn’t fall out of the tree… when I learn to play, I will make sure I’m less daring with my practicing locations. :P No need to injure myself in the process. :P

I try to be optimistic! I figure, if I write that it will happen, it will give me all the more drive to make it actually become a reality. Like a strange mind-trick. Maybe it’s crazy to believe that sort of thing, but I figure, it can’t hurt. Yay boundless optimism!

Awesome! I look forward to your post. :D

Angie » 27 April 2010

What a great tag topic! This is a great thing to do because I believe if you write things down it will help things happen. It makes it seem more real and not just like a far-away dream. I’ve actually been doing this myself lately, just privately.

I especially love your career goal.
(Angie’s last blog post: I realize this is a bit sudden)

(reply to this comment)

Krissy » April 30th, 2010

I totally believe that too. I used to think it was a load of phooey, but when I started my new degree, we were required to do it for this “career coaching” study, and I’m a convert now because it just plain works. I don’t know how or why, but it does. I think by telling other people your dreams and goals, it makes you feel more accountable for them, and that pushes me, personally, to put that much more into everything I do.
