I ♥ Tents

Hello, hello! Long time no see! You all missed me, right? ;) My move went really well, and I’m finally starting to get myself all settled in. Things are still very disastrous around my apartment, but it’s livable. I’ve been trying to catch up with blogging and get back into the swing of things for a few days now, and funnily enough, it took me becoming bed-ridden to actually sit down and start said tackling! Yes, ladies and gents, no sooner do I arrive out east, than my uber-klutziness kicks itself into high gear and I’ve injured myself. Again. I’m like a walking bruise. Band-aid brand should hire me as their poster girl. Silliness aside, it’s nothing too major. I think I’ve pulled a muscle in both of my calves so walking is less than fun. So I’ve confined myself to icing and bed rest. Which brings me to my wistful childish dream of the day… tents. Breezy, flowing, cozy, and all that yumminess wrapped up in a pretty little sheet of fabric!

Outdoors Tent

I figure, if I’m going to be stuck in bed, I might as well make the best of it. So I’ve built myself a little home inside my home: a tent in my bedroom to hang out in and wish I was far, far away in a magical land …where I didn’t want to chop my legs off.

Stars

Strangely enough, I’ve never been one for camping. I’m not a super outdoorsy kind of person. I enjoy nature. In small doses. Or from the comfort of my own home à la photograph. Terrible, I know. But anything that involves sleeping on the ground, or going for days on end without washing my hair, or rolling around in a mud puddle just doesn’t quite make my eyes see little floating hearts. But tents, despite my disdain for roughin’ it in the wild, still hold this mesmerizing power over me. And I get giddy at the thought of them, let alone building little tent forts from spare sheets.

Sleepover Tent

Is it sad that twenty-two year old me wants to build individual tents for all of my friends and have a sleep-over? If only I’d been clever enough to think of something like this ten years ago. So for now, I’ll just be chillin’ in my green-quilt tent all by my lonesome and lusting over all of these pretty little constructions wishing a) I was a twelve year old girl again, b) not afraid of the ickies of the outdoors (bugs, dirt, lack of hygiene), or c) all of the above.

Edited to add: It just occurred to me that I already gushed excessively about canopies a few months ago. I suppose my life-long dream for a canopy translates well to my new obsessive-love for tents. ;)

Great post! I’m glad to have you back!
Your blog has been my favorite since I discovered you! :)

I’ve been dreaming of tents in my living room too, but I’d have to go to ikea to buy some blankets first! I have a garland of fairy lights that is perfect for this purpose. Pair that tent with a novel and a cup of tea! :)

:D Aw, thank you, Marthe! I guess the feeling is mutual then because I’m so glad to have found your blog as well! :D

Ah, yes! Fairy lights are perfect for tent building. They completely slipped my mind, but I know I have some floating around somewhere. I should try and find mine to make my bed-tent even more magical. :D

Welcome back!
Oh, a tent to run away to sounds so good right now.

Thanks, Zmaga! I’m glad to be back to blogging. The break was nice, I’ve really missed the blogosphere.

Agreed! A pretty little place to run away to would be so lovely. I have major wanderlust these days. Dreaming over tents probably doesn’t help that either.

Hi and welcome back!As always a wonderful post! Leave it to you to inspire me and make me want to build a tent NOW!And no it’s not sad it’s great!Always keep alive the child in you. I ‘m 21 and do things like that and I plan to do them as much as I can. Life is to have fun not think with limits that other people want us to put. Hope you ‘ll have lots of fun in your new apartment!!

Krissy » June 9th, 2010

Exactly! I’m sure a lot of people think I’m a bit immature from time to time, but you have to keep that child alive inside you! Sometimes, you just need to go out there and do something a little bit silly. :D

Now go build that tent so I can build a styrofoam cup telephone from mine to yours. ;D

Glad to have ya back! Missed your posts – not that the guest posts weren’t lovely, haha. Good to hear you’re settling in well… but I hope you heal up nice and quick!
Tents… how wonderful! These are so adorable and charming… and I love that you made your bed rest a little more enjoyable by making your own tent.
The outdoors-y thing is definitely an acquired taste and for sure something that one has to get used to… I have a hard time dealing with the stuff (bugs, dirt, etc) you mentioned too.

Krissy I swear, its like our brains were separated at birth or something. I’ve been wanting to make a fort/tent-like structure for a while now and turn it into a fun area for Aiden (actually for me too). I would go to your tent sleep over!

*hughughug* Poor Krissy, I hope you feel good soon and can get over the pain. Moving can be evil!

Awww, those tents look so magical. It takes me back to making them in my on room. I never liked actual camping much either, but it was different stealing bundles of sheets and blankets to make special ‘caves’. :D

Thanks, Kya! The pain isn’t quite as bad today – horray! – so I figure my resting (and tenting ;) must be helping. ;) This just in: the cure for pulled muscles is building a bed tent. :P

Oo, sweet! Thank you so much, Heather! I’m most honoured. :D

I’m a bit fan of the pillow fort too. When I was younger, I used to love pulling all the cushions off the sofa to build tunnels with.

I’m glad that you’re back! I hope you are better soon. I’m a klutz too, so I always have some sort of bruise or cut on me somewhere. lol

I love the pictures of these tents. I’m not a camping or outdoor person at all either, so I’ll just have to live through these pictures or build one in my own house. :D

I’m so glad your move went well and I’m sorry to hear about that bruise! (I’m the same way.)
Someday, I’m going to build a huge tent in my house somewhere, because they’re perfect and it would be the coolest thing ever.

Thanks, Brandi!

Actually, you got me thinking – you know what would be the coolest thing ever, is if somewhere there was this giant gymnasium or something and everyone brought a set of sheets, a chair or two and a handful of clothespins and built one ginormous indoor tent! How rad would that be?

Awesome, thanks Eri! I’ve got the Cassie tag written down in my “blog ideas” file (nerd power, haha!) and popped your URL in beside so it’ll be right there waiting so I can comment and let you know when I do it. :)

Anyhow, thanks for stopping by! Have a lovely weekend! ♥

I couldn’t agree more. the Prospect of sleeping outside with nothing but a thin sheet separating the muddly floor from my clothes does not appeal one bit. but these tents are soo beautiful. maybe i’ll set one up inside my house :) xx

Thanks, lovely! Hopefully once I get all heeled up from this unfortunate accident, I won’t go out and hurt myself again. With my bad luck uber klutziness, I’ll walk into a door tomorrow. XD (Knock on wood!)

That sounds like wonderful fun to hang out and play games inside a fort! :D

Oh, I’m sorry about your injury, but I’m glad you’ve come back to blogging! I tend to hurt myself too quite a bit, so I know how it feels :P. There’s something so nostalgic about tents, but also so calm. Just looking at these pictures make me want to go camping. (or pitch a tent in my room, haha)
