Hands

“I don’t like standard beauty – there is no beauty without strangeness.”
~ Karl Lagerfeld

I seem to have an unusually large collection of images of just hands stashed away in my inspiration folder. I’m very attracted to hands; they have a strange pull over me. People say the eyes are the gateway to the soul. In a way, I think that applies to the hands as well. They identify what we’ve done and where we’ve been. In a way, they’re a scrapbook of our past.

These are such lovely photos! I too am rather partial to looking at other people’s hands (is this weird at all?). I know some who are blessed with very elegant fingers, others with cute, short ones. They are the best tools we’ve got :)

If that’s weird, that I’m right on board with you. There’s definitely an unusual beauty to hands. Or so I think anyway. :)

Hehe, I love noticing an odd and large collection of photos of certain subjects. This one is stunning. I will forever love the scrabble tile turned into a ring. Also, fabulous quote by Mr. Lagerfeld.

That scrabble piece turned ring is so genius, isn’t it? I’m still in awe of the brilliance behind it, and I kind of want one myself.

I think that quote might just have made it into my mental list of favorite quotes.

Disembodied hands creep me out slightly, but I really like the first, third, and fourth pictures.

I apologize for creeping you out then! Major props for making it through this whole post despite the disembodied hands!

I really love this post– and it oddly corresponds with my recent post! I just randomly took my camera and snapped away at my hands for the fun of it, then I see your post and go– no way. xD I love these pictures! I don’t really wear large fancy rings, but they’re damn pretty to look at.

Belated response, but talk about a shared brain wave!

I, too, love huge fancy, cocktail rings, but I don’t really wear them either. They’re pretty to look at, but they get in my way when I wear them.

So beautiful, just last night I was dreaming of my grandmothers hands and how much I miss them. They are like you say truly a map of our lives. *hug*

I’ve never really thought about the beauty of hands before – one thing that I’ve always noticed about hands is that no matter how made-up someone is, or no matter how much plastic surgery they’ve undergone, their hands always seem to seem more real, closer to their age. I know that’s pretty strange, haha. I like the feeling of a person’s hands more than the look of them.

Nah, that’s not strange at all! You’re absolutely right about that.

Did you ever like the movie Edward Scissorhands by any chance? Since we’re on the topic and it’s one of my favorites. So beautiful. I cried during it.

Oh gosh, I haven’t seen that movie in aaaages! Now you’ve mentioned it, I think I might have to get my hands on a copy for a re-watch.

What I want to know is how you found out about my secret fetish, and what are your tricks. I have some people I want to get some juice on so… chop/chop Krissy-ness!

In all seriousness, I love hands so much! ♥ I love manly hands, and I love graceful hands, and even weird hands where you’re like “they don’t fit you, but they fit you” – or maybe I’m just shallow – and you can’t help but just stare. I’ve always wanted to do something (in photography) with hands, but a) I don’t like mine and b) the sister won’t sit still long enough! Along with me taking 2,000+ photos of your interior designs… designs, I’m going to nab some photos of your hands. 8D

It’s my top secret power, I suppose: knowing everything there is to know about the Tess. :P It’s a blessing and a curse, dude. :P

(And I always appreciate dorkyness, so don’t even worry about it dude! I live for dorky.)
