Little known fact, once upon a time, I studied graphic design for a year. Yup. Ended up not being my thing, but I’m still made about type! Typography is what initially drew me to graphic design. I’m not so much on the up-and-up with the graphic design community at present, but one thing I do really enjoy looking over is custom typography. One of my favourite artists is Seb Lester.
I adore his work. It’s so elegant and intricate, and also has a bit of a naughty humour behind some of it which I love. Beautiful things that don’t take themselves too seriously are 100% my cup of tea.
I think my favourite part of his type is knowing that he painstakingly must spent hours upon hours upon hours laying out each individual letter and curly-cue… all by hand before taking them to the computer. (For anyone who doesn’t know me, I’m a huge advocate of hand sketching before refining in a graphics program. See this post, for example.)
(above) Story of my life.
I think his work is positively awe-inspiring. I could get lost in the little details. Like in my favourite poster of his, above… all of the type is made from tiny little stars. Intricacy, and painstaking detail, indeed.
