12 July 2011 in Film, Literature, Once Upon A Time

I find it incredibly hard to believe that I’ll be sitting in a movie theatre in a little under 15 hours seeing the final film installment of the Harry Potter series. I haven’t really come to terms with that yet. It just seems unreal. Despite all of the hoopla surrounding photo calls, press conferences, etc. etc., it just hasn’t sunken in to me yet. Around 2:30AM tomorrow morning, I’ll have seen all there is to see.i There will be no more. I refuse, however, to accept this as “the end”. Because it’s not. Harry Potter will never end in my eyes. It will live on forever and ever in our collective hearts and imaginations. I’m so happy to have been a part of this, and I know I will look back fondly for the rest of my life on these past however many years, and the wonderful friends and memories that have come out of it. On that extremely mushy and much-too-sentimental-for-its-own-good note, consider this my teeny, tiny tribute to that magical place which captured my heart so many years ago: Hogwarts.

“Perched atop a high mountain [...], its windows sparkling in the starry sky, was a vast castle with many turrets and towers.”

“Harry had never even imagined such a strange and splendid place.”

“The Entrance Hall was so big you could have fitted the whole of the Dursleys’ house in it. The stone walls were lit with flaming torches [...], the ceiling was too high to make out, and a magnificent marble staircase facing them led to the upper floors.”

“Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home.”

Many thanks to my good friend Crissy for being so kind as to type up the quotations from Sorcerer’s Stone for me. Much appreciated! ♥

  1. Apparently the film premiers earlier here in Oz than elsewhere in the world, and I promise, I will not say anything about the film so as not to spoil anyone. (»)

Oh gosh, I know! It breaks my heart hearing everyone saying “it’s the end of our childhood”. No. No, it’s not! Potter lives on forever and ever and I will cling to it even when I’m old and wrinkly. I’m so glad that I was a kid when the books came out and even though I HATED it at the time, having to wait between each installment… wouldn’t have changed that for the world. The anticipation and excitement of the next new book coming out was one of the greatest things ever. ♥

There is nothing more magical and beautiful to me than the Hogwarts in my mind. Harry Potter was so much more than a story to me, it was a way to experience the richness of life. I will love it always! And the pictures you posted captured the Hogwarts of my imagination better than many ever have. Thank You! I had chills :)

Thanks Caroline. :) I’m glad you liked my interpretation of Hogwarts!

I absolutely agree with you, too. I think that’s part of what I love best about the Harry Potter novels. They’re so much more than just a story. They have such a richness to them… they’re an entire universe that we all grew up wishing was real if only we knew which alleyways to take.

These are a beautiful set of Potter inspired photographs. I’m not going to fight for the premiere and rather get a good seat so I’ll probably wait around 1+ weeks afterwards before I’ll go. Enjoy yourself!

Hope you enjoy the movie when you go see it, Joy! I got lucky and managed a pretty decent seat for the midnight showing (that’s the beauty of going alone, I suppose… can squeeze in where others have skipped a seat without having to wait in line).

Ah, I totally feel you. I’m so totally excited to see this movie, specially after what I’ve heard about it. It’s supposed to be oh so good. Also, I’m going to see it with some of my loveliest girlfriends – where having dinner together beforehand.
But whatever, this will be the definite end to the Harry Potter series as we know it. That makes me sad and heartbroken – after all I’ve grown up with Harry since the age of 14.
I really love Hogwarts and I never want to miss it in my life. I’m very curious how that is in, let’s say, 15 years from now on.

So, enjoy the movie!! Try to inhale everything as deep as possible!
And thanks for sharing these pretty pictures. :)

XOXO. Happy week.

Aw, that sounds lovely! Hope you enjoyed the movie (and dinner!) together with your friends. That sounds like a fantastic way to send off the final film.

I think I might still be in disbelief about having seen everything there is to see now. It’s strange. Ever since about 6th grade, there’s been something new Potter-wise to look forward to. And now, no more. I think even 15 years down the line though, those of us who grew up with Potter and loved it will cherish and love it still. I’d be interested to see if it carries on to younger generations once the hype wears down though. I think it will. It’ll have the same fame, if not more, as the Narnia series or Lord of the Rings.

xo.

Those pictures are gorgeous. *_* Thank you so much for sharing!

You’re very lucky to see it so early! I’m EXTREMELY excited for you. ♥ I’m planning to watch the film on the 23rd, and I can already imagine myself crying when I hear the opening theme.

I’m so glad we still have Pottermore to look forward to. :D

You’ve got me feeling so nostalgic! I’m booking my tickets for Saturday evening today, I am very excited and sad, but at the same time I think I’m ready to get closure on this whole epic part of my life. At 24 it’s probably time to give up on waiting for my Hogwarts letter!

I cry every time I see a poster, trailer or advert. Part of wants to simply not watch it, and pretend it’ll still be there. Your blog was beautiful, the pictures were stunning and now I feel I may cry all over again!

Aw, I know that feeling! I’ve felt that way when many other things I’ve loved have come to an end. I remember when Pushing Daisies (tv show) went off the air. I didn’t watch the final 3 episodes for almost 6 months simply because I didn’t want them to end. Right now, the Potter series doesn’t feel over just yet to me. I think it’ll sink in when I have the DH Part 2 DVD in my hands and I marathon the entire series one after another for the first time. And when I take that last disc out of the DVD player, then I think it’ll probably hit me.

Hope you enjoy the final movie! xo.

Amazing photos! Haha. I’m actually looking forward to seeing the movie now, oddly… However, I’d love to see them all in order, since I’ve only seen the first three or four.

I was such a bawl of emotions, too. Excited to see what amazingness they’d come up with, and so sad to know it’s the final movie.

Hope you enjoyed it! I did! :D
