A Love Affair with Bows

It has begun. It started out innocent enough, a little ribbon in my hair on one or two occasions. Then came the sequin emblazoned t-shirt, the headband, the earrings, and before I knew it, they were everywhere. I have been over-run by the fearsome and oh so frightening… bow. Yes, the bow. The word itself strikes fear in the hearts of many. But I, on the other hand, have fallen so madly and obsessively in love with them.

It’s funny, I never used to be much of a girly girl, but in the past few months I’ve been finding myself drawn more and more to super frilly and feminine things. I wonder why that is? Ah well; there’s no use resisting it. I might as well just accept, embrace and continue about my merry way.

I ♥ Erin Fetherston (Resort 2011)

The girlie-girl in me is squealing with pure delight with the Erin Fetherston Resort 2011 collection. Each click of my mouse as I flipped through look after look had me flailing with giddiness. And how could I not when the collection was filled with such delightful details as bows!, pleats!, boater hats!, peter pan collars!!, sweetheart necklines!!, and pretty little dresses!!! Sorry, got a little exclamation mark happy there. To be entirely materialistic for a moment… I want the entire collection!

I just can’t get enough of this collection. Just look at the perfection that it is. Pure beauty! Aside from my obvious love of super girly shapes and dresses, I think what I love most about this line is the unexpected pop of red. It’s a far cry from something you would associate with this aesthetic; but the shade is muted just enough to give it a sweet and romantic air so that it seems perfectly at ease with the chic blacks and whites, soft pastels and shimmering metallics of the rest of the colour palette. Just… yum!

Erin Fetherston reps: call me. Hello, wishful thinking. Why yes, I am feeling delusional today. Delusional, and blinded by love…

I ♥ Chanel (Fall 2010 RTW)

Nearly two months after it debuted on the runway, I still find myself daydreaming about that ice-inspired Chanel collection. Perhaps it’s the winter-lover in me, but even after all this time, I’m still quite giddy over this collection and the treasure trove of beauty and little details it holds. I realise this seems very, very out of place now considering the grass is finally turning green and buds are appearing on trees, but I just love the super plush furs, woolly textures, and general Arctic-inspired approach to this collection. Despite the cool colour scheme, and frigid concept, this collection still imparts a luscious sense of warmth and comfort.

Like most Chanel collections, the wow-factor comes from the details. My, oh my! The accessories are – excuse my pun – iced to perfection. Completely ignoring the skillful craftsmanship that went into the fabrics (ruching! ♥) and focusing solely on the handbags and jewelry… my heart is melting.

Not to mention the runway itself is inspiring enough on its own! As I start to push my own boundaries as a budding interior architect, it’s over-the-top installations and solid follow-through concepts like these that I turn to to further advance my own imagination and design ideas.

I ♥ Tattoos

I’m quite enamoured with the temporary tattoos that the recent Chanel line as come out with. The beauty of them is in their delicate designs, and for me personally, the temporary part is very appealing. The idea of permanently etching something onto my body terrifies me to no end. But it’s funny actually, for something I have zero interest in doing to myself, I find myself very drawn to the art of tattooing. I don’t think I would ever get a tattoo – mostly because I fear in 10 years, I would hate it and want to rip my skin off – but I do love admiring from afar. Generally, the first that comes to mind when someone mentions tattoos is not something that is artful or elegant in the least. (Personally, I think of gruffy pirates with anchors and banners reading “Mother”.) But there are a lot of really beautiful designs floating around, and that’s what keeps me searching out tattoo designs. I sometimes find myself watching those tattooing shows on television (I could personally care less amount the drama and all that sort of thing on the show), but I love seeing what images people get inked on their bodies and the special messages behind them. It must be very empowering.

I believe this is only a doodle in pen, but I very much like the idea of a constellation tattoo.

I also really love tattoos on feet. And scroll-y text. So pretty!

I think if I were (forced) to get a tattoo at this exact moment in time, I would get something very tiny on the inside of my wrist like the lovely miss Victoria Beckham pictured above. Out of boredom, I had a little pen doodling session and below is my proposed tattoo – a cute little piano keyboard. It’s small and discreet, and piano is something that has been a part of my life since I was 5, and I could not imagine my life without it, so I see that little keyboard as something that has immense emotional and personal meaning.

How about you? Would you ever get a tattoo? And because I’m nosey, assume you’re forced to get a tattoo – what would you get? :)

Does this remind anyone else of Kurt Halsey Frederiksen? I’m not super familiar with his work so perhaps it is.

I ♥ Coco Rocha

Images from Flare Canada’s April 2010 cover-shoot featuring the lovely miss Coco have found their way online – yay! I’ve been looking forward to seeing the final photo selections for this shoot since I posted the behind the scenes video on Lily and the Muse the other week. The small glimpse we saw of it in the video really intrigued me, especially the chalkboard doodle backdrops which were done by Coco’s fiancee, and the final images don’t fail to bring the pretty – both the fun backgrounds, and of course, Coco.

Aren’t they fun? (Sidenote: I would totally do my own walls in the same way as this image. How rad would that be?) Coco is such an expressive model, and she lights up the screen with her broad range of emotions. She really channels the many different ‘scenes’ set by both the playful chalk doodle backgrounds, and the multi-textured and vibrantly coloured clothing creating an incredibly dynamic and diverse editorial.

I adore Coco. Not only is it awesome that she’s Canadian (yay Canada! I get strangely excited/proud/patriotic for awesome Canadian things), and that she’s a wonderfully, wonderfully talented model, but on top of that, she’s such a lovely person. Not that I personally am acquainted with her, but I follow her blog – which you should, too: she’s always sharing behind the scenes footage and photo outtakes – and she’s very open and honest about everything. One topic in particular that comes to mind is in regard to her stance on the sample size for designers and the issue what being “model skinny” means and requires of young hopefuls in the industry. (You can read her point of view here on her blog. A very riveting read.) Not only is she incredibly well-versed and insightful, but I think it’s very admirable and inspirational of her to use her success to speak out about the matter in question.

And lastly, she’s just flat-out ridiculously sweet. I follow very few ‘celebrities’ on Twitter, and I’m not usually one to send them tonnes of messages, or really any at all. I’m of the opinion that they don’t know me, likely don’t care/have the time for someone they don’t know, and would probably hear anything I had to say at least a dozen times over anyway. Beside the point though. I did reply to one of Coco’s tweets once, not expecting a response or anything at all, and not only did she reply back to my question, but she even went out of her way later the next day as well to send me an update on the situation. How sweet is that?

Case in point, I’ve gotta girl crush on Coco Rocha. ♥ I’m cuckoo for Coco! (Rocha, that is. Not Coco Puffs. :P)
