… or a lot belated, I suppose since even though the Academy Awards were only a little over 2 days ago, they seem like old news already. But Sunday/Monday is my busy period as that’s when each module for university ends for me. All of my assignments are due on Monday nights, so I’m always consumed with editing, adding, and adjusting to perfection late into the night.
Excuses aside though, I quite enjoyed the Oscars on Sunday night. While I adore seeing movies, I’m far from an expert on them, and I very rarely see enough of the nominees to be able to make any educated picks on who will take home the prize. So I just cheer on the movies I like. And drool over the pretty dresses. Since the first isn’t such a promising idea (nothing I was rooting for won… sad face), let’s take a step back to the pretty dresses and to my five personal favourite looks of the evening. I don’t expect everyone to agree with me (I’ve seen some of my picks pop up on worst dressed lists). But that’s fashion - it’s subjective. Some may tend more towards the traditional ball gown, while I like to see something a little more fashion-forward and avant-garde.

Diane Kruger in Chanel
Honestly, she can do no wrong in my eyes. She always looks like perfection. I noticed most people put this on their worst dressed list, but I’m choosing to ignore that. I fell in love with this dress the first time I saw it on the Chanel runway, and I’ve been DYING to see someone wear it to a red carpet event. Diane did it justice and looked flawless.

As per usual, I can’t help but gush a little bit (or a lot, depending on who you ask) about the recent runway shows. It simply would be out of character if I didn’t, and you’d all be wondering if I’d gotten zapped up by some alien spaceship and replaced with an outer space clone! Gasp shock horror! So to save you all the worry and panic, here’s a quick peek at some of my favourite bits and pieces thus far. (In no particular order because picking a top 10 was hard enough!)

1. Ralph Lauren
Oversized floral patterns (♥), ruffley floaty silhouettes, cute tasseled black caps, and chunky textured jackets.

Just for kicks, I’m dedicating this Head Over Heels post solely to the yummy fashion-y goodness that makes my heart flutter.

“OMG. Alexander McQueen.” – one of the first tweets I read when I logged on this morning. And never would I have imagined it would bare such devastating news. I’m still in disbelief about his death, and I’m waiting for someone to burst out shouting it isn’t real. He was such a visionary, always one to provoke and question boundaries. Truly one of the most innovative and inspiring voices in fashion, and I’m terribly saddened by the news of his passing. He presence on the runway and in the fashion world will be sorely missed.

I’m a teensy bit late to the party, and they say “fashion waits for no man”, so you will have to excuse me; please accept my tardy slip. Not last week, but the week before, the most prestigious designers in the fashion world once again flooded the airwaves with eye candy a-plenty with their Haute Couture lines. I always look forward to these (though to be entirely honest, I look forward to any and all collections, really, so this is nothing new). But I look forward to the Haute Couture collections most of all: a) because they never fail to amaze, b) because they’re always wonderfully exuberant, and c) because the designers always always always bring their number one game.
While there are only ten certified couturiers, you’d think it would be simple to narrow down favourites. After all, there’s only ten to chose from. How hard can picking three favourites be, after all? Apparently, too hard for one such person named Krissy. I ended up with four whole collections that I was completely smitten over. For the sake of this not becoming one super monstrous all encompassing post of doom though, I’ll dedicate this entry only to the wonder that was the Valentino collection.
