Every once in awhile, I like to compile a random mix of songs that suit a feeling or mood for one particular day. While I have hundreds of different playlists in my iTunes, there are days when not a single one of them is ‘right’. Like having a closet full of clothes, but nothing to wear. And so, this little mix was born to fill that musical void I was having today.

With the big move coming up (wait, I haven’t mentioned that 10 times yet today?), I figured it would be suiting to compile a fun ‘road trip’ type mix. I’ll be making the 20+ hour drive with my mom whose taste in music is, shall we say, very limited. So I tried very hard to compile something that she would enjoy as well since after that many hours in a car together, I’m sure we’ll be a bit crabby with each other. Might as well not make the subject of our bickering be musical preferences. (Though I’m positive we’ll each have to suck it up and listen to each other’s music at some point or another.)

This is just a silly little mix that I built a few months ago around the phrase “I Want A Unicorn” for no other reason than at that given moment, I really wanted a unicorn. Not that I don’t always want one, but I was feeling particularly gluttonous that day. (Raise your hand if at least once in your life, you wished you had your very own unicorn.) And so this mix was born to celebrate mythical creatures, magic, fairies, fantasy, castles, far away lands, and of course, unicorns.

With the first day of spring just around the corner, I thought it would be appropriate to post a mix dedicated to growing through the motions of first crushes, falling in love, and that back-flipping stomach feeling you get when you daydream about that special person. This mix also takes a bit a darkish turn though with the subsequent attempts to move on and erase the damage they’ve done to your heart after things fall apart.

“A philosopher once asked, ‘Are we human because we gaze at the stars, or do we gaze at them because we are human? Pointless, really… Do the stars gaze back?’ Now that’s a question.”
This month’s mix was inspired by the movie from which the above quotation comes: Stardust. Every time I watch it, that quotation always strikes a chord with me. Oddly enough, this time that chord literally resonated with me… and so I made a mix about stargazing. Not every song is specifically about looking at the stars, per se, but they were selected because they evoke that sort of dreamy night sky mood.
