Pinch me because I’m dreaming and I’m dreaming of Christmas morning. What a treat Björk’s new music video for the first single from her upcoming album is. Crystalline itself is a stunning piece of musical artistry with her signature out-of-this-world lyrics rife with beautiful imagery and thought-provoking metaphors. Plus there’s some really fun xylophone (I think?) going on. And then the video. It’s genius. A giant orange afro-like mop of hair. Laser beams. Gemstones growing out of moon craters. Crazy ass neon patterns scribbled across the sky. It’s pretty wacky. But in the best possible way.

Lately, I’ve become quite obsessed with getting my hands on a turntable. I’ve wanted one for quite some time, but it’s completely consumed me lately. Every time I’m out, I find myself gravitating to this one second hand shop and perusing all of the records. There are so many gems to be found – Simon & Garfunkel, Ella Fitzgerald, Gershwin, The Bee Gees, Billy Joel, Debussy! – but unfortunately, they’re just out of my reach as I don’t have a player myself. I think I’d really enjoy one though… Nothing beats listening to the classics the way they were meant to be heard. (Little known fact about me: I love jazz, big band and the blues. I totally wish I would have been born in the 20′s so I could have been an age to really appreciate the music of the 40′s.) It seems a bit ridiculous saying this, but I’ve already made an in-my-head Christmas wishlist with “Turntable” right at the top.

For the past few days, I’ve been indulging in a sea of wonderful new music. On the 23rd, my all-time favourite band, Goldfrapp, released their fifth album Head First. (Coincidentally, another favourite band of mine, She & Him, also released a new album that day as well, so I’ve been delighting in listening to both new albums – both of which are phenomenal!) For the last 5 days straight, the only two things playing in my iTunes have been either She & Him or Goldfrapp.

Where and when my love affair with the illustrious Goldfrapp began, I do not recall, but it seems that with the release of each new album, that obsessive place in my heart for their music seems to expand two-, or perhaps even three-, fold. Their fourth album, Seventh Tree, is quite possibly my favourite album of all-time. Of any musician. Ever. Quite a bold statement, I know… but that album is just pure, delicious folky love; so quite naturally, my hopes and expectations were very, very high for Head First. And man, oh man, Alison and Will did not disappoint!
