Hey guys! Please excuse the design disaster around these parts at the moment. New shiny layout in the works and to be revealed soon! Yay! xo. (2012/02/04)
Always and forever, Sleeping Beauty will be my favourite Disney movie. From a purely artistic stand point, I avidly maintain that it’s the most beautifully animated film of all time. Forget 3-D, real-D, and all of these fancy-smancy computer-generated graphics. While quite remarkable at what that technology can achieve, they’re more for spectacle and a means to an end. The traditional gouache and watercolour painted slides of the Disney from an era long ago… that’s what I hold in my heart. They’re animation at its most astonishing. Each individual piece is a work of art in itself, all comprising a visually breathtaking story from start to finish.
I’ve found her! The maker of my all-time favourite video in all of existence! I’ve finally found out who the genius behind it is and it feels like I just discovered some miraculous new species of insect or something, that’s how positively elated I am. I’m like a kid on Christmas morning hyped up on sugar and bouncing off the walls! It’s frightening how excited I am right now. She’s the one and only, illustrator Julia Pott, and her work is positively electrifying! I just spent the last few hours perusing her Flickr stream and oh my word, it’s like I’ve died and gone to illustration heaven. A wonderful illustration filled heaven complete with copious amounts of charming little animals, unusual colour palettes, and patterns galore!
This is my all-time favourite video. I love it to pieces. Imagine how much you love your dog, or your favourite stuffed animal. No, not quite that much. That would be unhealthy. But almost. The love is up there. ;) The animation style is so full of whimsy, and the characters are so adorable I just want to scoop them all up in a big bear hug. I love the story, too. It’s a super-duper mini-documentary about people’s first crushes. So endearing.
