Once upon a blue moon, I had intended to document my adventures through design school here on the blog. Well, that pretty much failed. I haven’t posted anything since November of last year. Oh dear. I got a little uneasy and anxious about posting my work online, but I’ve since realized that I was having completely irrational fears and after much debate inside my head, the camp of “Get over it!” won. So I’m 100% intending to re-commence the Adventures of an IAD Student series starting… now! Horrah!

When last we left off, I had covered my Shelter Design project. This mini-project later evolved into a much more intricate and elaborate semester-long project which I’m going to share with you today. Naturally, as I completed this project back in December of last year and have since taken a handful of more advanced classes, I look back on my presentation now thinking, “I would change this, and this, and this, and this.” I suppose there’s really no way to avoid doing that. As our skill sets evolve, naturally we want to go back and revise older work to bring it up to the highest possible caliber. And I fully intend to continue working away, constantly bettering this project. While I’m not entirely pleased any more with this execution, I’m still very much attached to this concept. So consider that my mini-”I think this kind of sucks now” disclaimer, and otherwise, prepare yourselves for some major verbal diarrhea on my part! (And I warn you, I can talk for hours on end explaining the concepts and decisions behind my designs.) I will try to be brief. Emphasis on the try.

Hello, Shimmer Like Gold readers! This is Katherine, the blogger behind Oh, French!, here guest posting because, as you probably know, Krissy is busy moving across the true north (strong & free).
As readers of my blog know well, I love forests, and cabins & cottages in forests, so it’s only natural that I also have a passion for treehouses! I also think it’s appropriate because Krissy studies interior design, and some of these treehouses are absolutely beautiful, design-wise, as well as completely magical (and nostalgic, for those of you who have been in one before!).

I realize I only just posted a Head Over Heels entry on Tuesday, but I had so so many things that I’m madly in love with at the moment, that they ended up spilling over into a second post. Voila, part 2!

Mia Wasikowska
Because I feel a girl crush forming… she’s so lovely. I really enjoyed watching her in Alice in Wonderland (2010) and Amelia (wasn’t expecting her there, so it was a pleasant surprise!).

I think it’s finally safe to say spring is in the air! I honestly was not expecting it to pop its head around the corner for a few more weeks yet, but we’ve already been basking in sunshine for about a week now. I think this might be the first ‘first day or spring’ in many years that it’s actually felt like spring. But there isn’t an ounce of snow in sight, and I’ve already dug my flats out from under by bed. I can’t wait to start wearing dresses comfortably again! I think what I’m most looking forward to about spring is being able to hop on my bicycle at any given time and explore the city.
As today is the official first day of spring (and since I was super busy with midterm presentations during actual Spring Colour Week) today seemed like an appropriate day to make up this post. As much as I love winter, I really enjoy all of the seasons (not a huge summer fan, but I deal) so there’s always something to look forward to with the passing of each into the next. And it’s so refreshing seeing all these bright, pastel colours of spring once again. They really bring a smile to my face. So onward to much colourful inspiration in the form of pink, chartreuse, robin’s egg blue, yellow, and purple!
