Mixology… I Hold Sunlight And Swallow Butterflies

I know I’ve been positively sunshine, unicorns and bunny rabbits when talking about my time in Australia thus far. Because let’s face it, it’s pretty darn awesome here. But that’s not to say I’m emitting rainbows with every foot step. There are always ups and downs. My biggest trifle here: homesickness. After my mom left and returned to Canada, I was really feeling the burn. So I made myself a little “cheer me up” mix to help keep my mind off feeling a bit blue. Here are some tunes to combat the feeling of being all alone and far from home, complete with some happiness inducing accompanying images.

02. Emiliana Torrini – Big Jumps

G’day Mates!

Greetings from Down Under! The last few weeks of travel have been such a whirlwind, I don’t even know where to start. I’m having a great time so far, and I have a truck-load of pictures to share once I get a chance to sit down and sort through them. Gosh, it’s been so long since I’ve blogged properly (over a month, going on two!), I fear I don’t even remember how any more. I hope no one minds if I cheat a teeny weeny bit this morning with a sort of “drive by” post. I’m so over-flowing with inspiration and things I want to share that I almost don’t even know where to begin. Consider this my “Today (a.k.a. the last 3 weeks) I’m Inspired By The Following Things” post.

Records

Lately, I’ve become quite obsessed with getting my hands on a turntable. I’ve wanted one for quite some time, but it’s completely consumed me lately. Every time I’m out, I find myself gravitating to this one second hand shop and perusing all of the records. There are so many gems to be found – Simon & Garfunkel, Ella Fitzgerald, Gershwin, The Bee Gees, Billy Joel, Debussy! – but unfortunately, they’re just out of my reach as I don’t have a player myself. I think I’d really enjoy one though… Nothing beats listening to the classics the way they were meant to be heard. (Little known fact about me: I love jazz, big band and the blues. I totally wish I would have been born in the 20′s so I could have been an age to really appreciate the music of the 40′s.) It seems a bit ridiculous saying this, but I’ve already made an in-my-head Christmas wishlist with “Turntable” right at the top.
