Hope everyone’s enjoying the new year thus far! You’re going to have to bare with me as I work my way through my “Farewell 2010, Welcome 2011!” posts. I’ve been in a bit of a shopping/family/hockey coma over the last week, and blogging has been the absolute last thing on my mind.
That said, time for my annual “best of the year” mixtape. Though, does it really count as annual if this is only my second time doing it? In any case, I’m going with it. Like last year’s Best of 2009 mix, I’m compiling a list of my favourite songs released in 2010.

I’d be fooling no one if I tried to deny winter was my favourite season. I’m a cold weather kind of girl. I love everything about it. One of the things I love most about Canada is that, despite pop culture belief, we experience four seasons. I don’t think I could ever live somewhere that didn’t have winter. It would be a travesty. But you know, the more I think about it, I think I could live somewhere that has perpetual winter. Call me crazy, but I think that sounds dandy. Kind of like this mix. Oh yeah, how’s that for a clever-boring-on-lame segue?

I woke up this morning and vowed to spend my day solely doing homework. Quickly checked my e-mail, Twitter, and did a small scan of my feed reader while I ate breakfast. Most amazing find? The Small Stakes, a small company that designs music posters, is coming out with a book! I’ve seen a few of their posters floating around online before and loved them to pieces, so of course, the book has instantly gone on my wishlist without a second thought. After all, it’s a most glorious sounding book. Filled with 150 posters. 192 pages. Full colour. Under 25$. The perfect gift for any music and/or art lover. Myself included. Too bad my birthday isn’t until December otherwise I’d be hinting very, very strongly at my friends and family. (Or perhaps that’s a good thing. ;)
I ended up spending a good half hour scouring The Small Stakes website lusting over their posters. Unfortunately, the majority of the posters for bands I love are sold out, but then again, that’s the beauty of their book – they’ll likely all be inside. Anyhow, here’s a collection of a few of my favourites which I tried desperately to keep under twenty… we shall see how that goes.

Because I’m very inspired by abstract paintings these days, and hers have such dreamy colour palettes.
