Like I needed another excuse to further indulge my overwhelming wanderlust, but these photo+type mash-ups of cities and countries across Europe were just too good. I love the muted colours in the photographs and the classic type treatments – very old world romantic, and perfect for these historic European locales.

… and now I’m off daydreaming of escaping down winding side streets, and exploring little shops and cafes, and sitting on a park bench to people watch. Impromptu Europe trip anyone? I say we hit up each of these lovely cities/countries below. They’re taunting me to come visit! Amsterdam and Prague, especially!

Last week was a little quieter than usual around these parts. Midterms had a large part to do with that. And I needed to take a few days after the fact to just clear my head and refresh the ole creative spark, you know? Now if only I could have transported myself into the photographs of Jennifer Squires, and my task would have been simplified tenfold. Her images of the Great Lakes are the epitome of calm, peace, and serenity, and in a way, almost seem to be their own special sort of creative therapy. I love her minimalistic approach to photographing these expanses of water – it makes them seem so mystical and otherworldly.

Alert! New photographer crush! Alert alert! New photographer crush!

Perhaps that was a tad over dramatic. Just perhaps. But it’s the truth folks. Naturally, I’m completely smitten by the work of photographer Marie Zucker. It’s soft, it’s romantic, it’s feminine, and it’s got glittery bits. Yup, right up my alley. I particularly adore her “Drink the Sea” series – the muted colours are striking against the bright whites and shimmery bits. I’m even willing to get over my slightly irrational fear of water for the sheer loveliness of it all. How’s that for the restorative powers of art+photography!

And because I couldn’t resist, I few more favourites from her portfolio:

Magical and down right lovely, aren’t they?

9th March 2012 in Colour, Photography

For my long-time readers and blog buddies, it’s very easy to associate me with white. I love white. It’s my colour soul mate. If I were to live with one colour for the rest of my life, white would be it. Despite this oh so profound love affair, I do love me some bright colours without a doubt. You see, white is my obsession, but rainbow is my favourite colour. White or all the colours, that’s how I like it folks.

This is all just a long winded, and slightly off-topic/rambley, way to say that I’m majorly, majorly, super duper in love with these delicious looking tarts in all the shades of the Pantone rainbow. Check yes for mouthwatering. Check yes for rainbow lovin’! I’ll have a 7492c and a glass of orange juice, please and thank you.

Once every four years, everyone gets an extra day for free.” How did you use yours? On February 29th, the trio behind An Extra Day started and finished their own creative leap day project: go forth and explore London, meeting and photographing 24 strangers. Their efforts are documented on the website An Extra Day showcasing each no-longer-a-stranger‘s picture and their story. How’s that for making the most of the every day?
