I think it’s finally safe to say spring is in the air! I honestly was not expecting it to pop its head around the corner for a few more weeks yet, but we’ve already been basking in sunshine for about a week now. I think this might be the first ‘first day or spring’ in many years that it’s actually felt like spring. But there isn’t an ounce of snow in sight, and I’ve already dug my flats out from under by bed. I can’t wait to start wearing dresses comfortably again! I think what I’m most looking forward to about spring is being able to hop on my bicycle at any given time and explore the city.
As today is the official first day of spring (and since I was super busy with midterm presentations during actual Spring Colour Week) today seemed like an appropriate day to make up this post. As much as I love winter, I really enjoy all of the seasons (not a huge summer fan, but I deal) so there’s always something to look forward to with the passing of each into the next. And it’s so refreshing seeing all these bright, pastel colours of spring once again. They really bring a smile to my face. So onward to much colourful inspiration in the form of pink, chartreuse, robin’s egg blue, yellow, and purple!

Sometimes around this time of year, when winter seems to be dragging on and on, we just need to be reminded of all the beauty that surrounds us. I know for where I am, we’re unlikely to see hints of spring poking its nose through for another 6 or 7 weeks. So why not embrace all the loveliness that winter has to offer us? Perhaps I’m blinded by my love of the season (I’ve never been one of those people who counts down the days until sunshiney weather) but I can’t help but swoon over icicles hanging off the porch, or snowflakes getting caught in the window screens. In those moments before they’re disturbed by snowploughs and passing cars, they hold such a pristine and almost angelic beauty.

Enjoying… a ridiculously long winter break. It’s been so wonderful though. I’ve had lots of time to relax, watch movies, read, loaf around, and be generally quite lazy.
Reading… 3 whole books this month, and I’m working on the 4th! Before now, I hadn’t read a book since August. (Appaling, I know.) I devoured The Kalevala, The Alchemist, and The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. I’m currently reading The Piano Teacher.
Listening… to Debussy’s Cloches à travers les feuilles. I’m enthralled by this piece of music. I’m going to start learning it on piano.
Exercising… or trying to. I got terribly lax on my exercise regime in December, and I’m trying to work up my endurance again. As a Twitter friend so cleverly put it: “I’m not going to call it working out. I’m going to call it horror movie training. You never know when you’ll need to run.” My new motivation.
Compiling… many-a-mixtape. One of my favourite pass-times is creating playlists in iTunes. I have a bajillion. I’ve made quite a few more than normal this month. Suffice to say, I’m very excited for February’s Mixology.
Listening… and rather obsessively I might add, to Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson’s album The Break Up. It’s so fantastic. I’m addicted to the song I Am The Cosmos. No lie, I listen to it every day. And have for a good month.
Preparing… for back to school. Yes, my winter break is quickly coming to an end. It’s back to studying for me on Monday.
Shopping… lots and lots and lots. Probably too much. But I can’t help myself. It’s that time of year: post holiday sales time. I don’t spend a lot throughout the year, so I let myself go a little overboard every January as a treat to myself.
Anticipating… the final season of Lost! It’s all I could think about these last few weeks, and I can’t wait! Only a few days away now.
Stomping… around in my two new pairs of boots! Two months into the snowy season, and I finally have boots. It was kind of pathetic before. But I’m finally armed with two super stylish and practical pairs. Fear me, winter!
Blogging… up a regular-sized storm! Yes, I initially planned to do NaBloPoMo this month, but it became too stressful, too much like school. So I stuck to my regular posting ‘schedule’. A schedule I refer to as blogging whenever I feel like it. :P I’d much rather post things when I’m inspired to do so, than be forced to each day.

We had our first major snow fall here today! I woke up to a good 3-4 inches! Horray! I love snow so much – possibly beyond a natural amount – so it was a pleasant surprise.

It took every possible ounce of strength, self-control and restraint to wait until at least December to roll around before I posted this. And I really wanted to wait until the first official day of winter, but I can’t hold it in any more… It’s almost winter! Horray! I love winter. ♥ It’s one of my favourite seasons. There’s something so magical about it. And I have so happy memories from growing up that are associated with winter – building forts and having snow ball wars, tobogganing, leaving out ‘treats’ for the animals, drinking hot chocolate, bed time stories wrapped up in woolly blankets. Just thinking about it makes me feel all warm and squishie inside!
